✨ A little senior portrait prep goes a LONG way! ✨
Sharing a few more favorites from this absolutely STUNNING senior session 😍📸 And while we’re here, I thought I’d share some of my favorite tips for getting ready for your senior portraits!
These aren’t “rules”—just little things I’ve learned over the years that can make a surprisingly BIG difference in your final images. 💗
📸 STEAM OR IRON YOUR OUTFITS!
This one is huge! Wrinkles photograph much more prominently than you might expect and can completely change the polished look of an outfit. Hang everything up after steaming it instead of stuffing it back into a bag.
✨ Give everything a quick lint roll.
Especially black or darker clothing! Tiny hairs, fuzz and lint LOVE showing up in high-resolution portraits. 😂
💧 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Start drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your session—not just an hour beforehand. Hydrated skin tends to look fresher and healthier, and you’ll generally feel better too.
🥪 PLEASE eat before your session!
I know some seniors worry about eating beforehand because they don’t want to feel bloated, but showing up hungry is so much worse. Senior sessions can involve quite a bit of walking, standing, changing outfits and moving around. You want energy, good color in your face, and to actually feel GOOD while we’re shooting. Have a normal meal or snack beforehand—nothing crazy, just don’t come on an empty stomach!
👗 Try everything on BEFORE session day.
Sit in it. Walk in it. Look at it from different angles. Make sure bras, straps or undershirts work with it. If you’re constantly tugging, adjusting or uncomfortable in something, that feeling tends to come through in photographs.
👟 Don’t forget the shoes!
Even when you think they won’t be in the picture…they probably will be. 😂 Make sure they’re clean and actually work with the entire outfit.
💅 Pay attention to the little details.
Clean nails, moisturized lips, fresh haircuts (preferably not five minutes before your session 😅), tidy facial hair, clean shoes, wrinkle-free clothing—those little things add up!
🐾 And as much as we LOVE our animals…leave them home unless we’ve specifically planned for them to be part of your portraits.
Pets can be distracting during a session, even when they aren’t actually in the photos. Your senior session is YOUR time to relax, focus, have fun and let us create without worrying about what your furry bestie is doing behind us. ❤️
And probably my biggest tip?
Come as YOU.
Don’t feel like senior portraits mean suddenly dressing like someone you’ve never been. Bring the clothes you love. Wear the things that make you feel confident. Choose locations and ideas that fit your personality.
Because my job isn’t to make every senior look the same.
It’s to take everything that makes YOU, you and turn it into art you’ll still love years from now. ❤️📸
Class of 2027 — senior season is HERE! If you haven’t booked your senior portrait experience yet, I’d love to create something beautiful with you. 💗
