When the mountain lakes are so calm they create a perfect mirror and double the awe inspired by the beautiful fall foliage 🥰

We were driving between Braga and Gerês when we saw a random trail going off the road. Naturally, we had to put our little rental car to the test and find how far down the trail it would go. It took us nearly to the end, and after 15 minutes more of walking, this treat was waiting at the end 🍁

Fall comes in many colours and contrasts. Sometimes, you stumble right into the perfect pair in both 🍂🍃

I was turning around from being mesmerized by a slow river creating a mirror of fall colors, and I was metaphorically smacked in the face by these trees covered in dark green moss standing in the middle of almost glowing red fallen leaves.

The recent geostorm deserves a second round of glory because what an incredible night it created. This is the same night as previously round but taken with more optimal exposure setting to really show the magic that was at play all the way down here in southern Virginia.

When Aurora shows up in southern Virginia, you bet we do too!

With nothing less than a G4 geomagnetic storm, she put on an incredible show for us all the way down in Halifax county, dancing in both green and pink across the sky - add to that that we’re lucky enough to be far from city lights, and it makes for a night to remember!

Sometimes these geomagnetic storms can cause widespread blackouts, but I have not seen any reported so far. Let’s hope it stays that way and that we can get away with the amazing lights dancing across the sky with no disruption to power grids or communications for the people already at risk from hurricanes Helene and Milton.
