Took a trip down to Texas Falls in Hancock Vermont a week ago, only to discover the lower falls observation deck inaccessible due to trail maintenance, and falls obscured by lots of big deadfall. The park service has done a lot to upgrade accessibility to the bridges and parking since i was last there, but I hope plans include clearing some of the deadfall and re-opening the lower observation deck again soon. The good news is that this encouraged me to ventured up-stream a few yards where I was able to capture some of the smaller falls. Happy I did! Such a beautiful location.

Stepped out the back door this morning to see an entertaining trio of Pileated Woodpeckers. One searched logs on the ground below, while these two systematically worked around the tree, occasionally fighting and at other times seeming to share their bug bounty with each other.

Well, I am finally emerging from my Winter hibernation and starting with a series of bird photo’s taken last weekend during a visit to the Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach areas of Virginia. Barred Owl, and Blue Heron vs. Frog captured at https://www.facebook.com/SandyBottomNaturePark, and the Egrets, Herons, Mallard, Osprey and Greater Yellowlegs were captured at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/back-bay), south of Virginia Beach. Back Bay Refuge is an amazingly accessible and vast, must visit treasure for coastal wetlands and birding if you are in the VA Beach area. #

A look at a snowy and cold (15 degrees at time of photo) Mt. Mansfield from a venue in Fairfax Vermont. I like the late afternoon sun, as it creates shadows that highlight the topology of Vermonts highest peak.
