I need to be honest for a minute.
I absolutely love photography. Creating art, capturing memories, and telling stories through my lens fills my creative cup in a way nothing else does. But at the end of the day, my children and my husband's company come before photography every single time.
Lately, I've been trying so hard to meet a two-week turnaround time, but the reality is that it has become increasingly difficult. My kids are home with me every day, and there are days when I feel like I am failing everyone. Some days they don't get outside as much as they should. Some days they watch three hours of TV because I'm trying desperately to finish editing, answer emails, do billing, handle marketing, and keep everything moving forward for two companies.
Right now, life feels a lot like being a single mom without childcare. When I do get childcare, it's usually so I can help with my husband's company because finding reliable employees has become nearly impossible. In the last two weeks alone, we've hired 10 people, and only one has consistently shown up for work.
To keep our family afloat, my husband is working from sunup to sundown, seven days a week. He's exhausted. I'm exhausted.
And if I'm being honest, it's starting to affect how I see myself and how my children see me.
I started this business because I love being creative. I wanted something that was mine outside of motherhood. But I also chose this path because I believed it would allow me to be present with my family and enjoy these precious years with my children.
My daughter only gets one last year before school becomes a much bigger influence in her life. I want both of us to remember this season as one filled with adventures, laughter, and time together—not a season where she constantly heard, "Just give me 15 minutes," only for that 15 minutes to become an hour.
My children cling to me while I edit. My baby often feeds himself because I'm trying to use every spare moment to create beautiful work for my clients—not because I don't care, but because I care so much. I pour my heart into every gallery. I never want to deliver something that feels rushed or thrown together.
But lately, I've realized something has to give.
I don't want my children to remember me always sitting behind a computer doing billing, editing, marketing, and paperwork. I don't want their memories of me to be "just one more minute" or "give me one second."
I want them to remember a mom who played outside, who was present, who watched the bugs, picked flowers, and made memories alongside them.
To my clients, thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your support. I am doing my very best to balance being a mother, a wife, a business owner, and a human being. If my response times are slower or your gallery takes a little longer than expected, please know it is never because I don't care. Please note if you book with me past this point you are looking at a four week turn around from your session date.
It's because I care deeply about both the work I create and the little people who call me Mom.
And right now, I'm learning that those little people need me just as much as my business does.
