Salzburg is the home of Mozart although I learned he didn't like Salzburg and only came back once after moving to Vienna. But you can visit the city and see where he grew up. If you are a "The Sound of Music" lover, you can also visit the areas where it was filmed.

Tourism is one of its biggest industries and you could spend days exploring the shops and markets. With so many little tunnels and side streets it was easy to get lost but just remember to look for the bridge with all the locks.

My mama loved to hear about my travels and I have had more opportunities than I ever thought I would. She has been gone for 11 years and yet I still think of her every time I go on a new adventure around the world.

I just visited Austria for the first time and fell in love with the vibe, the art, the music, and the beauty that has shaped us even without us really knowing it.

Traveling allows us to learn about our history and ourselves from different perspectives. If you have an open mind you will always learn something new wherever you go. And, the memories you create will not just shape you but those you touch as well.

Thank you mom for pushing me to see all that I could in this big beautiful world.

Starting this adventure here in Vienna. Enjoy!

It's been awhile since I have taken any camera out to do some photography and this is just my phone but I couldn't resist the views from the air during my travels.

If you have never been to Colorado you may be surprised to find it extremely flat before you get to the Rockies. At the edge of the plains, you can literally see the next city over. Here are a few incredible views from the air.

I've been traveling so much for work that I don't know if I will do any personal travel this year other than to visit family. But that doesn't mean I won't get some camera time. Here are a few from Taiwan that I just got around to editing. Taiwan has never been on my bucket list but this visit whet my appetite with its natural beauty. Now I wonder how I overlooked this jewel. Enjoy!

We had the chance to spend just a couple of days at Banff National Park and while it came at the end of an amazing trip, I am so glad we took advantage of our time there.

Banff is just spectacular. While the town of Banff is busy with tourists, there are other areas of the park that were unbelievably beautiful and with almost no people. The peace was incredible and the scenery is some of the best I've ever seen.

I would recommend anyone who gets the chance to spend even a day at Banff and it is definitely a place to go more than once in your life. I hope these photos give even a small taste of the beauty that exists in this world.

And, yes the water is really that turquoise...

Ketchikan felt to me like the most commercial of the stops we made but you can't deny the beauty here. I had scheduled a whale watch for us but I don't usually have a lot of hope as I have done a whale watch every where I can and don't usually have the luck to see much. And, of course, this was correct on this trip but even without seeing whales, the wildlife was incredible.

A rare location that sees all 5 species of salmon, it was a bit startling to them jump randomly out of the water. We happen to be there on the hottest day on record but the water was calm and cooling.

Check out some gorgeous animals we were privileged to see.

It was very interesting to see how different the towns we stopped were from each other. And how often I forgot that we were in the US still and not actually in a different country.

Of the 3 cities we stopped in, I think Haines, Alaska was my favorite. Enough local shopping to satisfy my need for souvenirs but not so commercial that it has lost the small town charm. And, we got to see some unexpected wildlife.

My husband has had Alaska on a pretty short bucket list for years and when the opportunity arose for a deal on such a cruise, I decided to take the plunge!

Here is what I learned:
1. I am not a cruise person. I know there are many who love to do cruises for traveling and it really is a good way to see a lot but I am not really a social person and activities aren't my thing. I spent most time out on the deck watching Alaska go by.

2. Having a water bottle and a hot drink cup or mug is a necessity to me. The drink stations were mainly on the 15th floor or Lido deck so tromping up and down to get some water or tea was a pain in open cups and mugs.

3. Alaska is hot. We happen to hit port in Ketchikan for a record high day so I was glad I took T-shirts and hiking pants. While jeans is fine, hiking pants keep cool even in hot sun and keep wind out when it is chilly. Great for covering changes in weather.

4. You can meet people from your neighborhood. We happen to meet a couple from another cruise who lived just 20 minutes away and a bartender from a town nearby.

Lots of other things I learned but now let's get to the photos! First up, Icy Strait Point and the town of Hoonah, Alaska.

A little sneak peak from our travels to Alaska and Banff. It always amazes me to see such awe-inspiring places. I take so many photos because I want to believe it will help me keep that feeling of awe alive when I need it most. Can't wait to show everyone more...

History is so much more interesting to learn when you are actually seeing what is being talked about. While most people think of Amsterdam when talking about the Netherlands, I think Haarlem stole my heart.

Like many things in the US, Haarlem is a Dutch name that has been carried over. But this Haarlem brings to mind restful weekends spent people watching in the market square and viewing wonderful architecture and picturesque landscapes by walking around the town. As with other areas of the Netherlands, bicycles dominate and there is little noise pollution from vehicles. I have to say, this way of life is very appealing!
