Your children do not need to be perfectly behaved for beautiful family portraits.

They can laugh. They can wiggle. They can cuddle into you. They can be silly.

In fact, I want them to.

Some of my favorite photographs happen when we stop worrying quite so much about everyone looking at the camera and simply let a family enjoy being together.

Of course, there is plenty happening behind the scenes. I’m thinking about lighting, posing, composition and all of those little details that make a portrait feel polished. But *you* shouldn’t have to think about any of that.

You get to love on your babies.

Of course, you won’t know it’s the last time when it happens.

That’s the strange thing about motherhood. The days can feel incredibly ordinary while you’re living them, and then suddenly you look back and realize just how much has changed.

It’s why I’m always drawn to the photographs that show connection. The way your children lean into you. Their hands wrapped around you. The expressions that happen when everyone forgets for a moment that there’s a camera in the room.

Beautiful portraits matter.

But twenty years from now, I think it’s these little pieces of your relationship that will matter even more.

Their portraits should have as much personality as they do.

Children’s photography doesn’t have to mean matching outfits, forced smiles and everyone looking at the camera.

Sometimes it can be a little dramatic. A little unexpected. And a whole lot of fun.

I love designing portraits around the child in front of me—their personality, their style and the way we want the finished artwork to feel. We have an extensive studio wardrobe for children, along with sets, props and styling pieces that allow us to create something completely unique.

The result is more than a photograph of what your child looked like at this age.
