An absolutely beautiful day exploring Colorado Springs!

05/24/2026

The Tetons are just the most epic place to go get hitched. There’s SO much to go do, so much to go see. You can hike, bike, boat, take a gondola, grab Cowboy Coffee or a Corbet’s Cabin waffle. Go search for wildlife. See sunrise light up the mountains and sunset create beams through the canyons. It’s stunning.

Last fall, I shot one of the craziest elopements of my career – a multi-day, multi-country elopement in Northern Ireland and Iceland.

H+Z spent three days exploring ancient castles in Northern Ireland and glaciers in Iceland. Even when our itinerary changed a bit last-minute because of a (literally record-setting) snowstorm, we packed so much adventuring into H+Z’s elopement, including…

• A first look at a quaint countryside cottage
• Lots of portraits at Northern Ireland’s stunning Dark Hedges
• Visiting the ruins of a 1,600-year-old castle on the cliffs
• A ceremony on a farm overlooking another historic castle
• An adventure through a snowfield to an insane ice cave
• Getting offered several celebratory shots of liquor by locals (in both countries)
• Portraits at a glacier lagoon (where we all got soaked by a wave)
• Running dramatically down a black sand beach
• A hike to a waterfall (and finally, some gorgeous sunlight)
• …and at least five coffee shop visits

Hey there, I’m Sam! I’m an elopement photographer, videographer, and planner for adventurous couples. I travel all over the world capturing insanely epic elopement days like this one! Got a wild itinerary in mind for your elopement? I’d love to chat!

Death Valley isn’t on most couples’ radars as an elopement destination – but it absolutely should be!

Death Valley is an insane landscape. It looks like another planet – and it’s surprisingly colorful (in fact, one iconic part of the national park is called the Artists Palette). The cool rock formations, glowing sunsets, salt flats, and mountain views are all incredible and unique elopement backdrops.
But one of the best things about eloping in Death Valley is that it’s super private! Breakfast Canyon in the part of the national park where wedding ceremonies are held, and it’s actually not open to the public! And after your ceremony, you can explore and take photos at all the coolest spots in the park.

Of course, if you’ve heard anything about Death Valley, you know that it’s HOT – so the best season to elope there is between December and February, when highs are typically in the 70s. It’s a great choice if you want an adventurous winter elopement without snow!

Winter is the most slept-on season for Colorado elopements – but it’s one of the coolest times to elope!

Colorado has stunning snowy scenery in the winter, and the most popular locations are usually less busy. Plus, there are activities you can only do in the winter, like skiing, snowmobiling, or sleigh rides.

But what about the cold?

Colorado does get quite chilly in the winter – but there are lots of ways to stay warm during your elopement! I’ve photographed lots of winter elopements and picked up some tricks along the way…

• Wear base layers under your wedding attire, like long underwear or thermal leggings. No one will be able to tell!
• Make fun outer layers and warm accessories part of your outfit – like fur capes, wool coats, and fun hats and scarves.
• Bring your warmest coats for traveling between locations, and just ditch them for photos!
• Pack a thermos with a hot drink (like coffee or hot chocolate) to keep your body temp up.
• Get a lot of hand warmers and put them everywhere!
• Plan some warm breaks in your elopement itinerary, like stopping at a coffee shop between activities.

Right now is the PERFECT time to start planning your Colorado elopement for this winter. Send me a message to start chatting!

Looking for an epic mountain venue for your elopement or microwedding? Boy do I have one for you!

This new backcountry home in the San Juan Mountains is incredible. A luxury stay in the middle of the mountains, right at the base of world class trails for hiking and off-roading. It’s truly the perfect base for an adventure elopement!

The property has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and can sleep a max of 12 people. It’s truly a remote backcountry lodge – but there’s other housing options within 30 minutes if you want to host more guests (plus, the house has starlink internet to stay connected with everyone).

In the summer, you can reach the lodge directly with a high-clearance 4WD vehicle (which you can easily rent nearby). In the winter, the access is via ski-in/ski-out, snowmobile, or helicopter, and requires coordination with an experienced backcountry guide.

And the best part of all? You get 10% off this venue when you bring me along! Which means you just found your Colorado planner, photographer, and venue. You’re so close to planning your entire elopement!

It’s not too late to make this happen this summer – I have one more San Juan date open (August 31st). Check out the lodge, plus some incredible elopements I’ve shot in this area. And send me a message to start chatting!

One of the most common questions I get as an elopement photographer is: “Do we have to hike for our elopement?”

And the answer is NO! Not if you don’t want to. There are so many stunning views that don’t require a trek. In fact, some of my favorite elopement spots are places you can drive right up to, or only require a short walk.

Plus, if you still want to get way out in the middle of nowhere, there are some fun alternatives to hiking you could try – like off-roading, horseback riding, snowmobiling, canoeing…even a sleigh ride! The most important thing is that your elopement day is fun and comfortable for you guys.

In fact, I took all of these elopement photos at locations that didn’t involve any hiking!

Looking for an epic & unique place to elope? You should consider Iceland!

It’s a small country, but packs a big punch! You could…

- Go hiking or ice climbing on a glacier
- Soak in a hot spring
- Stand below huge waterfalls
- Run on a black sand beach
- Explore an ice cave
- Take a helicopter ride to see a volcano from above
- Go kayaking among icebergs
- Rent a camper van and explore the Ring Road
- Eat *so* much lamb soup
- Take in the northern lights
- Frolic in a field of lupines
- Go birding and see puffins
- Snorkel between tectonic plates

Honestly, the list could keep going (for a while). If any of this sounds fun to you, consider Iceland! It makes for an epic elopement location, and just an epic time in general.

Inquire on my website to start chatting about what an Iceland elopement could look like this winter, or next year!
