One of my favorite moments during a golden hour session isn’t when I’m taking photographs.
It’s when I ask my couples to simply stop.
No posing.
No cameras.
No directions.
Just the two of you, finding a quiet place to sit together as the sun slowly slips behind the mountains.
For a few precious minutes, I step back and let the world fade away. I want you to soak in the warmth of the last golden light, breathe in the evening air, hold each other a little closer, and simply exist in that moment. Sometimes you talk. Sometimes you laugh. Sometimes neither of you says a single word.
Those few minutes are never wasted.
They’re often the moments that become the heartbeat of your session.
When I quietly pick my camera back up, the smiles are softer, the embraces are more natural, and the love between you isn’t something I’m asking you to show, it’s something you’re already feeling.
I believe photographs should be more than beautiful images. They should hold memories. They should remind you not only of what the sunset looked like, but of how it felt to pause life together… to watch another day come to a peaceful close, hand in hand.
Maybe that’s why golden hour has always been my favorite time to photograph.
Because every sunset is a gentle reminder that even endings can be breathtaking, and that the most beautiful light often arrives when we simply slow down long enough to appreciate it.
