Growing up I was never a fan of early mornings. Something about becoming a mom and having those deep hours before the dawn for some quiet and contemplation has awakened a passion in me for that witching hour. Hiking in the mountains with the moon overhead and the subtle glow of the approaching Sun is magical. Sometimes I like to just stop and listen to the absolute silence. Every once in a while I'll hear the howl of wind among the peaks, but more often than not, there's nothing. No birds or cars or other people, way above the timber line.

Just your breath.

Just your pounding heart.

It inspires awe.

And I think to myself, this is what John Muir wrote about. This is why Ansel Adams photographed. This is why I'm here.

When I asked Katey & Camden where they wanted to do their engagement photos, they opted for downtown Colorado Springs instead of something a bit more epic. They drove all the way down from Denver to have coffee and lunch with me and then we roamed around the back alleys of Colorado Springs for some intentional, urban photos.

Everything doesn't have to be epic all the time. In fact, in the midst of banal surroundings, actual human love and connection can shine brighter.

I'm about ready to go through a huge rebrand and website overhaul this fall and winter and so I've been gearing up by looking through my old shoots. Trying to figure out as I continuously evolve my style, the things I want to latch onto and the things I want to fade away.

The beauty and graininess of film is something I will always keep. Along with soft, dreamy movement, the quiet moments with my couples, creating space for art and imagination and above all, love. These things are important to me.

Trying to copy the work of others, trying to keep up with the trends, trying to photograph in a way that seems incongruent with my passions and values, those things are on the chopping block.

I know it's only September but I'm already gearing up to run into 2025 with my heart and hands open.

M & D's Elopement day yesterday at Lily Lake was absolutely, breathtakingly gorgeous. Everybody had been stressed watching the weather as the storms rolled in one after another but somehow, miraculously, we got just enough to chase the crowds away and then a gorgeous sunset.

It's tough having elopements in the mountains when the weather can be so unpredictable. But when the universe smiles on us, she really smiles. The key is to roll with whatever life gives you and find the beauty even in the storm clouds.

I'm about to dive head first into September and the crazy schedule it brings. Lots of opportunities to capture those in-between moments for my couples. Lots of traveling and lots of new experiences.

I've had a whole summer of beautiful moments with my little family and now it's time to buckle into the business. When I emerge 6 weeks from now, the weather will have completely changed and the leaves will be golden on the Aspens.

I'm so grateful for this time in life. I'm grateful for the moments I get to steal and for all of you who follow me on this journey. Thank you 🙏

This past Saturday, N&C got married! There was dancing! A 97-year-old grandpa asleep in an airstream! Tiny cheesecakes! A Hora! More dancing! A touching ceremony! Lots more dancing!
