Some of the most intense morning light I have seen Garden of the Gods Park --just after sunrise yesterday morning. I woke up, saw that it was cloudy, and was tempted to go back to sleep, but a little light on the horizon convinced me that it could be a good sunrise--glad Iistened to me instincts! The flowers are Arrowleaf-balsamroot; also known as Oregon Sunflowers.

Did my annual hike to Eccles Pass near Breckenridge last week. Usually it is packed with wildflowers in early August, but this was not a good year for flowers. I mixed things up and approached the pass from the east side rather than my usual west side, since the east side features a couple lakes that I had not been to before.

I figured the wet weather would be good for waterfalls, so on Tuesday I headed to the Wild Basin area in Rocky Mountain National Park to head up to a series of waterfalls along a creek, including Ouzel Falls which is a good day hike destination. The showery weather and my late departure gave me plenty of solitude on the muddy trail. Here's Ouzel as a few raindrops were starting to fall in the early evening....
