Recently my daughter's cousin started coming with us to martial arts, and it's been so fun to hear the car conversations coming from the back seat after school. We've also been playing games in the car that I used to play as a child on road-trips, and seeing them enjoy their childhood together makes the world seem so much brighter. Her cousins are the closest thing she has to siblings, and it's been so heartwarming to see them grow up together. You don't often get to live near family when your location revolves around military life, but we appreciate every opportunity we've had to call this place home, and we fall in love with it more and more each day. When I get to experience a place like Colorado while capturing the love and happiness of each family I photograph, there are no words for the fulfilment it brings.

Took a much needed girls trip through Colorado recently to make some new memories and have some time off before life gets too busy as we begin to leave winter behind. Our first stop for the weekend was in Vail for the best hot chocolate ever that we discovered on a previous ski trip, then we spent time at our favorite mountain beach in Avon before heading west. We visited the Honeybee Festival in Palisade, explored the Colorado National Monument in Grand Junction, stopped in Breckenridge to see Isak the Troll, then came back home. Travel has always been important to me because I love to explore the world we live in. I never take for granted the ability to travel, yet I always feel there is so much more to see and so little time to see it all. Being out in nature is re-energizing to my soul, and I'm always grateful to photography for helping me discover all the beautiful places we get to experience!

One last break from school before we are only two months away from graduations and summer break! Senior sessions are some of my favorites because I get to see kids become young adults, hear their goals and dreams for the future, and experience their excitement for new adventures. They may feel like they have much to grow in still, but they don't know how much I learn from them just during our short time together. The reminder to live in the moment and not forget that I once was in their place is something I don't take for granted. No matter how old you get, there is always so much more to learn, whether that be from those ahead of you with more life experience or those before you living in the moment with hope for a better future.

Looking forward to all that this year brings over here as we get back into the swing of things now that spring is coming! Hopefully it warms up soon, but also it's Colorado, so I'm sure we'll get more snow up until May. I always look forward to the colors that spring, summer, and fall bring, although with my general distaste of winter, Colorado is still where we love to call home. I'm so excited to meet the new clients of 2025 and to see the returning families and how they've grown and changed! I cannot believe our own little one will be in the double digits next year, and it really puts life into perspective on how fast time goes. Always take the time to appreciate every moment, every breath life has to give you and those you love.

It'll be ten years this year that my husband has been in the military, and while we have loved this life, the desire to settle down into our dream home and own my own studio someday is one we look forward to. But we are so grateful for the creativity of other local photographers with their beautifully curated spaces they provide. I can't say enough about the time and effort Kindle Studio puts into every theme and idea whether it be for Mother's Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, or even just neutral spaces for every day photos and business sessions. I love the versatility of this space, and while it's available year round, it's definitely a perfect option for photos when it's winter time. We love the team there and all they do to make this a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it to any photographer or client!

As we did his photos last summer for his upcoming senior year, Cavan spoke of his goals and plans for the future. Little did we know then that a short while later he would be diagnosed with cancer. Family and relatives all came together recently, some even from other countries, to do a photo session with Cavan, and as I was editing them, it caused me to go back and look at his senior photos again. Back then I saw a high school student showing interest in a sport he loved, but now I see it through different eyes...a young man who became the fighter he never knew he had to be. Cavan has maintained his humor and personality throughout this challenging time, exhibiting a strength that should inspire us all, and this is exactly why I love to document all the different stages and memories of life.

A Christmas Eve service, dinner at In-N-Out, and a drive around town to look at all the lights before heading home to watch a Christmas movie. Then there was a rush to get to bed for our little one this evening as she was watching the NORAD Santa tracker and saw that he was getting closer. All of a sudden she realized that we didn't have any cookies to set out, so 10pm there we were hastily baking a batch during the bedtime chaos! This Christmas Eve was bittersweet as she had begged to have an elf "come visit" during December like her cousins and friends have. So what else do you do but get an elf to experience Christmas magic to its fullest? Then on our recent family vacation, they gifted her another elf when we checked in for our stay, so this was our first year with not only one but two elves. She definitely had some tears saying goodbye to her newfound "friends" as they will head out tonight with Santa when he stops by, but we made so many core memories together this season. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

As we head into the holiday weekend, I just wanted to take a moment to remember what it's all about. November 11, 1918, is regarded as the day of "the war to end all wars." This day became a memorial to honor all those who have served their country, sacrificed time with their families to protect others, and given up their own rights to fight for the freedoms we live by. May we never take our freedom for granted, may we always remain grateful for their selflessness, may we remember them on more than just this day.

It's been three days of snow, canceled school, and road closures. So in between getting photos edited, my daughter and I built a blanket fort in the living room to sleep in for a girls night, went sledding, made s'mores in the firepit and hot cocoa, baked cookies, made crockpot meals together, had a movie night, and chased the kittens around. But after awhile, I do start to feel cooped up in the four walls of a building and need this snow to let me out. I miss hiking in nature, exploring new places, lunch with friends, getting coffee, and taking my daughter to the park. The snow definitely makes for some beautiful photos though, and we're grateful for the family memories we've been able to make these past few days!

Recently I attended an event with friends that consisted of a scavenger hunt around the area. It was in the evening and as expected the weather was cold, the lighting was dark so reading the map, finding locations in the dark, or taking photos at each location proved difficult, and in our group one of us had an injured back and another an injured leg, both prior to this event. But while we joked about not being as young as we used to be and skipping out to get a drink at a restaurant, we shared a lot of laughs, we grew our friendships as we got to know each other better, and we worked as a team. Each of us used our knowledge as one person understood and deciphered all the "codes" to the scavenger hunt, another person was familiar with where each location was, and yet another brought ideas to gain bonus points. In the end our team did win the scavenger hunt, and while maybe next time we would settle for staying inside where it's cozy to play some bingo and enjoy hot apple cider on a crisp fall evening, I believe we will always treasure and appreciate the memories we made that night. So try something new, go out of your comfort zone, spend one more night being young again because you never know what you might learn from the experience and the happiness it brings along the way.

We are exactly two weeks away from Halloween and we are so excited to celebrate it with the cousins each year. Being a military family, there have been years where we didn't live near family, and having a little girl who is an only child it can be difficult at times to find your community. But here we have family, here we have friends from when I lived here as a child, here we are home.

Meeting Haley a little more than a year ago has brought such a joy to my life. She has a great sense of humor but she is also one of those rare people who notices everything around her and when someone needs encouragement. Haley is such a positive influence and spends her time working with children who need additional support in school. I recently attended her wedding, and one of the guests there asked me how I view weddings as a photographer. I told them that getting to follow a couple around and have those private moment where it's just you and the couple is one of my favorite memories. You get to experience the love between them as they just get to relax in the peace and quiet of the moment before re-entering the glamour of the party, and they get to just be. That's what I love most about what I do is seeing people feel free to just be themselves. It's not about the picture perfect moment, it's about the relationships and memories. And Haley and Nathan sure do have so many beautiful memories, and I wish them a lifetime of happiness together!
