Columbia holds remarkable significance as a city that played a pivotal role in shaping American history. This significance is illustrated by the countless prominent buildings scattered across the South Carolina midlands. While some of these structures have evolved with the passing decades, many have fallen into varying stages of decay. Whether vacated once they became obsolete or outright abandoned, Columbia bears numerous unique ruins still standing as silent witnesses to the area’s past. Exploring these remnants provides a unique opportunity to reflect on overlooked places and foster an appreciation for their haunting beauty.

Excited to announce a project I've had in the works for a while. My new book, Abandoned South Carolina: Bygone Places of Columbia, is out today!

Living in Columbia during undergrad back in the day allowed me to gather plenty of subject matter exploring all these historic and interesting abandoned spots; I've paired this collection of my best 160 photos (many never shared on my page) across 17 abandoned locations in South Carolina's capital city with detailed accounts of each location's history.

Those interested in Columbia's local history, urban exploring, photography, or just a new coffee table book, this is for you, check it out and let me know what you think!

Amazon book link is in my bio, also sold at all major book stores.

The historic grain plant in Estill, SC. Built in 1947 and later expanded between 1952 and 1953, the expansive property with its large grain elevator and numerous other grain storage silo looms over the nearby downtown. The facility once stored and processed soybeans, but controversially changed hands between corporations several times since 2010, and again sits back on the market today.

The now demolished Intertape Polymer plant (formerly Anchor Continental) off South Beltline in Columbia. This plant began its life in the early 1950s producing adhesive tapes and was used until the mid 2010s when Intertape announced this facility would close and it would move its operations. The plant fell in to abandonment soon after and was largely demolished in 2021. The property is currently being redeveloped.
