It’s been years since I spent money on business education.

I LOVE learning, and I’m currently in a learn all business stuff mood…
But I decided I’m not going to invest right now.

I was looking for someone who was wise, not going to SELL to me, and would give me accountability or a community.
Then I realized I had that.

Meet my new business coach: God, the Holy Spirit, my Bible, The Word

I know that my business, and life in general, are so much healthier when I give it to God. When I give Him full control and I go to Him for wisdom and discernment.

So, for now, I am using him alone to guide my decisions and to do my marketing.
If found 2 business owners who love God boldly and I’ll learn from them, but God will be my decision maker.

I have 2 passions that operate under the same business 💕

I’ve always wanted to be a photographer & loved photojournalism.
So, now I photograph families in their homes, doing what they love with who they love!

Not just candid or unposed. These are photos in your space, so you truly are leading the way!

I’m also very passionate about caring for Moms and their families.
I love villages and believe that we can’t just stumble across them. So I go out of my way to help moms find their village!

I help Mom rest and recover, I nourish her so she can nourish her baby. I help her relax so she can be fully present for her family and people.

I also help Moms speak up and ask for help in their village. Most the times, Mom have people who want to help but they don’t know how to ask for it!

As a postpartum doula, I’m not just here to give you a breakfast muffin & hold your baby.
I pray over you, I brush your hair, I fold your clothes, and I LISTEN before I speak.

These are my 2 passions and this is my 1 business 💕

"Lydia McCaulley is my family's go-to for all our family photos and for my business/brand photos. We have worked with her for several years now. She is professional and simultaneously puts everyone at ease in front of the camera. Her feathers never get ruffled, and she truly loves what she does.

We have several children and with previous photographers I was SO STRESSED the day of photos trying to get everyone to cooperate and make sure our house was clean and no one rolled in the mud the last minute.
But with Lydia, she makes our real life look magical in photos - I'm not sure how.

The first few times I thought were a fluke because during the sessions I thought "there's no way she got any good shots I could frame" and then I'd see the results and be mind blown.

Now, I just relax, let our kids play and be themselves - they feel so comfortable around Lydia and love doing whatever she asks of them and the pictures are always amazing.
Lydia's gifts and love for what she does are apparent and I'm so glad I get to benefit from them!!

One day in my life as a Postpartum Doula 🌸

Before I begin, I check to see if Mom needs breakfast, water, or to use the restroom.
Once we've done a quick check-in, I usually head to the kitchen to make a nutritious breakfast and pour her some warm tea.

If Baby is awake, I take her so Mom can eat breakfast without interruptions.
After she is finished, we talk about how the house is doing and what may need to be done to help declutter her mind.

If she would like the focus to be on her today, then we begin with a castor oil wrap and foot soak while she nurses.
Afterwards, she lies down on a floor mat or on her bed, and we do some gentle stretches and body massages.

If Baby is still happy and resting, then Mom takes a shower while I clean up the house or prep snacks.
I check the diaper pail, the wipes, diapers, and Mom's postpartum basket to ensure they're all stocked.

After her shower, we do a check-in. How is breastfeeding going? How is her body feeling? Is she feeling fatigued at a certain point of the day? Do we need to adjust rhythms or add more food to her nursing cart? Who can she call to help 3-4pm when she needs an extra hand, Baby is fussy, and Dad isn't home yet?

Each day is different, so is your support!

Newborn photos with older siblings are always so sweet.

The snuggles, the way that big brothers care for their little babies, and the joy in their parents' eyes as they watch both of their sweet babies. ♥

These are 4 of my favorite books!

The Birth Partner is an amazing book that both you and your partner/birth support person need to read! Bookmark it, flip through it, read the entire book, open it! It's jammed with information.

The First Forty Days is more than a cookbook! She covers the importance of nutrition, talks about the traditional Chinese postpartum period, and goes into detail about each meal she recommends. *Also wrote a book about nutrition while trying to conceive and during pregnancy*

Birthing From Within helped me mentally prepare for my second delivery. It gave me lots of tools to help my view of birth, to go over any fears or uncertainties, and to prep for early postpartum.

The Fourth Trimester is an amazing book that goes over the postpartum period and the support that you need! Can also listen to this book for free on Spotify and on Hoopla.

From her first baby boy to Mother's Day celebrations, baby announcements, Christmas photos, maternity photos, and her second baby boy. ❤

It's always an honor to join families in preserving memories year after year!
And it's even MORE special when I get to support them in the postpartum period every time!

When you read postpartum support, what do you think?

It isn't just baby wearing, stocking diapers (for both Mom & baby), and folding laundry.
Some days I don't do any of that!

It's also...
Making fresh meals for Mom
Helping her nurse Baby
Listening to her
Creating a postpartum support plan for down the road
Gentle massage and baby rubs
Warm tea and a journal

I hear many women say how important this is, but they don't utilize it when they have a baby!
Most often, I hear they don't need it because they can do it themselves.
Or, it would be NICE to have a postpartum doula, but her husband will cook dinner, and she has frozen burritos in the freezer...

But let's be honest, this is just getting by. And her husband needs a break, too!

Please don't be the Mama who tries to do it on her own. Use the first few weeks to rest your mind and body. Talk to someone about how you're feeling and ask your questions.

Get off Google, get off your feet, and put down the afternoon coffee.

These are a few of my favorite things 🌸

If you've given me even 15 seconds to talk about these topics, you know I'm deeply passionate about them!!

Why specifically in-home portraits?
Because I think that this is where you get the true stories! People put on a show when they are in public. When they're home, they are comfortable! At home, you get snapshots of the way your family actually hung out, the way that they ran around, and the books they actually read.

Why does HOLISTIC postpartum support matter?
Because I believe the whole family needs support, Mom needs someone who won't only hold her baby, and her mind is just as important as her body.
She needs help with her baby, keeping the house tidy, going through her emotions, releasing tension in her body, showing Dad how he can help, giving her big sibling some love, and keeping her body fueled with nutritious foods!

Why would anyone want their birth photographed?
Because the memory can feel really hazy! Maybe she is private and won't share any of it. Maybe she wants to share photos of how she and her spouse reacted to holding Baby within the first few minutes.
But the point is, SHE wants to remember the details. The challenging parts and the most rewarding moments! She wants to be reminded of her strength and the team that helped her along the way. ❤

These are a few of my favorite things. 🌸

Hi! I’m Lydia McCaulley (Hunter) and I’m a photographer and postpartum doula 🌸

I studied photography at the College of Charleston and immediately got into the wedding industry.
It wasn’t until I had my first son that I decided to full switch to family and birth photography. That is also when I began diving into the role of postpartum doula. 💛

I’ve been learning about birth, postpartum, and newborn care since 2022, and I am constantly learning more!

I grew up surrounded by very creative women and a community that was always helping one another. From missionaries, to Moms, to Dads who can fix or make it all. Everyone always helped everyone.

I’ve collided these two worlds to create my business and I’ll never turn back!
It is truly an honor to serve, support, and document these moments in a family’s life. ❤️
