Give me five minutes of your time.

A couple of years ago, my good friend Joshua Jacobs approached me with a unique opportunity. He asked if I would manage his business's social media account. Despite my lack of experience, I embraced the challenge, promising to learn and adapt as needed.

In the last three weeks, posts to the business page have been seen 3,081 times. The page has 13,400 followers, 12,100 more than other businesses in the same category. I post content for the business at a much higher rate than his competitors. What does this all mean? More customers and a healthy bottom line.

Storybook.

The mountain in the photo's background is named Storybook, which is fitting given the week. When we are born, our life story begins, and we add chapters to it as time passes. The stories multiply during our lives, and then, out of seemingly nowhere, we have an entire storybook.

This week, I labeled another story and entered it into my storybook. I reconnected with my former 1st Ranger Battalion Company Commander. Dave Taylor and I had not seen each other in 17+ years. We picked up right where we left off. We laughed, we razzed each other, and we worked our butts off.

I also made new friendships. Vern Tubbs, Bo Todd, and I never served together, but you would never know it. When you have done the things we have done in the places we have done them, there is an instant connection. If you told me that tomorrow we would be heading into combat together, my only question would be, where’s the helicopter?

I also met some of the finest people in the electrical cooperative industry. Neil Hesse and Malony Bartush were fantastic, and their team of managers, linemen, and staff are exceptional. I served my county for 20+ years for people like them. They thanked me for my service too many times; the honor was all mine. The team at PenTex Energy has a chapter in my storybook.

I am grateful for the opportunity to capture and share the story for LDR Leadership and PenTex Energy. If you find yourself in Southwest Georgia, know that you have a patrol base location, and we can write another chapter in our stories.

Long runs and psychologists.

Two things I avoided while in the Army. I still avoid one of those things and wish I had used the other a lot more while in uniform.

Side note. Less than five years ago, I was stepping off the back of a helicopter in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, chasing ISIS. If you had told me at that moment that in the future, I would be asking people and businesses to let me manage their social media. I would have said that you are just as crazy as the ISIS terrorist we were after that night.

It turns out that I enjoy creating content and helping people and businesses tell their stories.
