Part one of this dear fam. 🥹🥹🥹

As I was preparing to post these, I notice myself comparing my work to photographers I admire and I continually come back to feeling like it just doesn’t hit the same as so and so’s or it just doesn’t remind me of anyone else’s work that I like.

It’s enough to bother me and make me think, maybe it’s just not that great then??

But then I hear a friend, family member, or fellow photographer say “that’s such a Laura photo!” And I am so encouraged. Being different is okay.

We are all inspired by different things and I think real art is born out of those individual inspirations. I hope the things that inspire me speak to you through my photos!

Every single year these sweet sisters take the first 30 minutes or more of their photo session to warm up to me. And let me tell you, they sure can keep a straight face!

I’ve learned this about them, and have really enjoyed leaning in to their serious nature in the beginning of the shoot. And remembering that often, all it takes is time, and by the end they’re chatting and playing and giggling up a storm with me!

I’ve also learned the importance over the years of stepping back and prompting mom and dad to be the funny ones. It is so sweet to see the uncrackable shell of a child’s serious face get split wide open at just the sound of dad‘s laughter. 🥹

This family has had me back to their property for many years in a row, and every single time I feel reinspired at their enjoyment of their land and girls, the quiet, simple, cozy wooded scenery, and stunning evening glow of their place at the very end of a little gravel road. Like getting to capture pure magic. 🥹🥰

I read something recently where a mom shared her thoughts about the beginning years with two of her children that were very close in age. She said it was a lot like having twins and to embrace it as a bit of a blur in the beginning but that watching them grow up being close was so rewarding and sweet.

I think I had often heard about the first few years being a bit of a blur, but I don’t think I really understood it until that moment reading her words, as I’ve started to crawl out to the other side of that blur myself.

I had seen so many moms with kids who are one, two and three - they seem great! They seem cheerful, not dazed or in a blur, they seem present and happy! But what’s crazy is you can’t tell that someone’s in a blur or even that you yourself are in a blur until you’re out of it! 😂

I also think realizing this has made me view myself with so much more grace these last couple years. And it makes me want to approach other mothers with young ones with so much tenderness.

It feels like forever in the moment. But everything comes and goes in seasons, hard times aren’t forever, and you can still be happy and joyful in the midst of a blur! But shew! It really is nice to feel a little more like yourself again! ♥️

Just some life lately ♥️ Pulling the big camera out for the girls is really one of my favorite things.

‘Two’ is kind of crazy. Like we literally cried (all of us) our way out of Kroger the other day as both girls screamed their brains out, disrupting the entire store, because the kind cashier was “taking” all of our groceries…. 😒😵‍💫 And then the next minute I’m blubbering with tears of joy at their sweetness and their four word sentences and their hilarious personalities. 🥹😭 SHEW! What a whirlwind! 🤪

Some little moments that stopped me in my tracks as I was editing these studio sessions. Oof. 🥹♥️

The reason I love these sessions so much is because it’s truly back to basics for me. Kids, my camera, and nothing else. It’s what all the other sessions start with, it’s at the heart of it all for me.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved children. I love making them laugh. I love making them comfortable. I love being their friend. I love discovering what makes them tick, and seeing how each and everyone is so different from the next.

These sessions really allow that to shine and I’m so glad so many of you enjoy them too! ♥️

A little hello 👋

Thinking about what I would want people to know when they come to my page, a lot of things come to my mind. I’ll try to summarize a few of them here!

• I started photography as a business in high school, graduated in 2012 and went full time in 2016 (now 10 years full time, over 14 in business! 😱🥰). I truly thought it was unrealistic and not practical to run my own business full time. God had other plans!

• I was single until I was 28. Four years ago, I met my dear husband, we were married one year later, pregnant with twins a few months after that. We moved back to my hometown close to both of our parents and we now have two beautiful 2 year-old girls!

• I still view my work as a chance to practice art more than running a business. I think this is important to know before you hire someone; my priorities lie in each photoshoot and the beauty of the moment with you, more than the number of followers or a perfect workflow.

• It has been challenging to say the least, becoming a mom and wife, and learning how my work fits into that. The Proverbs 31 woman did her work in tandem with her mothering, along with everything else that we aspire to do as women like her. I hope my efforts reflect Christ.

• When I think about the end of my days, impacting people for God’s kingdom (especially my children), is what’s most important to me. If in the art of photography, wonderful! If in mothering at home, wonderful! If in forgoing trends, social media, quick text responses and other distractions for a time, wonderful! If in pouring into the people around me or quietly recharging at home for my family, wonderful! If in running a thriving business or just limping along, wonderful. Gods hand is in it all. ♥️

Thank you for being here!
