I've been thinking a lot about what I want Austin Garnette Photography to mean.

Not just "beautiful photos."

Not just weddings. Not just portraits. Not just another gallery sitting on someone's computer.

I want to photograph the parts of your life that you'll want to remember.

The people you love.
The way you looked at each other.
The version of yourself you were at 28, 35, 42.
Your children before they got so big.
Your family when everyone was still together.
The moments that felt ordinary until you realized years later that they weren't.

Because photographs become more valuable with time.

That's the kind of work I want to keep making.

Photographs that don't just remind you of what happened.

Photographs that help you remember what it felt like to be there.

Here's to documenting a life worth remembering. 🤎

Hi, I’m Austin. 👋🏾

If you’re new here, welcome! I’m the face behind Austin Garnette Photography, and I believe the best photographs aren’t just beautiful—they become part of your family’s legacy.

There are a lot of photographers who can create beautiful images, so I don’t expect someone to choose me because my editing style is a little warmer or my posing is a little different. What my clients tell me sets me apart isn’t just the photos—it’s the experience. I’m going to learn your story, remember your favorite people, calm your nerves, celebrate alongside your family, and make sure you actually enjoy being in front of the camera. My goal isn’t simply to deliver a gallery you love today; it’s to create photographs that still mean something decades from now.

Now… let’s talk about that last photo. 😂 It was inspired by some of my favorite R&B legends. That iconic album-cover lean has always stood out to me, so I couldn’t resist putting my own spin on it.

So I have to know…
🎤 What should my debut album be called?
🏆 And who do you think pulled off the iconic lean the best?

Whether you’ve been following my work for years or you’re just finding me today, I’m really glad you’re here. Thanks for being part of the journey—I hope we get the chance to create something meaningful together.

One of the biggest misconceptions about photography is that people are paying for pictures.

They’re not.

They’re investing in how they’ll feel every time they look at those pictures years from now.

Anyone can learn camera settings.
Anyone can buy expensive gear.
Anyone can recreate a Pinterest pose.

But not everyone knows how to make two awkward people forget the camera is even there.
Not everyone notices the way your grandmother reaches for your hand.
Not everyone catches the laugh that happens between the poses.

My job has never been to simply document what happened.

It’s to preserve the feeling of it.

Because someday these photos won’t just be memories…

They’ll become part of your family’s history.

That’s the difference I’m chasing every single time I pick up my camera.

I always tell couples the same thing before we start.

"This isn't a test."

You don't have to know how to pose.

You don't have to practice your smile.

And you definitely don't have to spend the whole session looking at me.

Honestly, some of my favorite photos happen when you're paying attention to each other instead of the camera.

Talk. Laugh. Tell an inside joke. Walk together.

The more you forget I'm there, the better.

By the end of almost every session, somebody says, "That was way easier than I expected."

Mission accomplished. 😂

If it's been a few years since you've had photos together—or maybe you've never had any outside of your wedding day—this is your sign.

Life doesn't have to have a special occasion to be worth documenting.

Let's play a quick game.

Here are a few things people apologize for before their session:

👉 "We don't know how to pose."

👉 "Our kids probably won't cooperate."

👉 "We have no idea what to wear."

👉 "We're awkward."

First of all...welcome to the club. 😂

I've never had a family show up and say, "Austin, we've actually been practicing our poses all week."

You don't need to have everything figured out before you book. That's literally part of my job.

I'll help you choose a location, give you outfit advice, tell you exactly what to do with your hands (because apparently nobody ever knows 😂), and keep things moving so the session feels fun instead of stressful.

The only thing you really need to do?

Show up.

I'll handle the rest.

What's the biggest thing you've worried about before having professional photos taken?

One thing I've noticed about expecting parents...

Almost every conversation is about getting ready for the baby.

The nursery.
The registry.
The baby shower.
The car seat.
The names.

And all of that matters.

But somewhere in the middle of all the planning, I think it's easy to forget that this is a chapter worth remembering too.

Before life changes.

Before you're running on two hours of sleep.

Before your phone fills up with pictures of someone who suddenly becomes your whole world.

Maternity sessions aren't just about documenting a pregnancy. They're about pressing pause for an hour and saying, "Let's remember what life looked like before we met our little person."

It's one of my favorite things to photograph because you can almost feel the excitement through the photos.

If you've got a baby on the way, congratulations. I'd love to help you remember this season.

I hear some version of this all the time...

"We were going to book photos, but we wanted to wait until..."
..we lose a little weight...the kids get older...life slows down...we have more money...everything feels a little less chaotic.

And honestly? I get it.

But if there's one thing photographing families has taught me, it's that life is always moving. The kids keep growing, the seasons keep changing, and somehow another year goes by before you even realize it.

The "perfect time" usually doesn't show up. You just decide today's worth remembering.

That's one of the reasons I love what I do. I'm not photographing perfect families or perfect couples. I'm photographing people exactly as they are in this season of life.

And years from now, that's what you'll be grateful for.

If you've been saying, "We really need to get pictures taken," consider this your little reminder. 😊

Question for you: What's one memory from this summer you already know you'll want to remember?

Can I brag on my parents for a minute?

Today they celebrate 39 years of marriage. ❤️

Thirty-nine.

That number honestly kind of blows my mind.

Growing up, I don't think I realized how special that was. It was just...Mom and Dad.

Now that I'm older—and after photographing so many weddings and couples—I appreciate it a whole lot more.

Because 39 years isn't just an anniversary.

It's thousands of ordinary days.

Inside jokes.

Hard seasons.

Celebrations.

Showing up for each other over and over again.

As a photographer, I get to witness the beginning of so many marriages. One of my favorite parts of the job is knowing that the photos I'm taking today might be looked at decades from now.

Hopefully the way I look at these photos of my parents.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad. Thank you for showing me what commitment, grace, and unconditional love look like.

Love y'all. ❤️

Now I have a question...

Who's the couple that's been married the longest in your family? Tell me how many years—I want to see if anybody beats 39. 👇

The best part about being the fun uncle? I get a built-in content partner… whether she volunteered for the job or not. 😂

Safe to say Jade keeps me humble every single time we record something together. Some of the funniest moments never even make it to Instagram.

Can I let y'all in on a little secret?

Parents apologize WAY more during sessions than they need to.

"I'm sorry he's being wild."

"I'm sorry she won't smile."

"I'm sorry they're not listening."

Meanwhile... I'm over here thinking, "Yep. Looks like kids to me." 😂

I don't expect your kids to stand perfectly still for an hour. Honestly, I don't even want them to.

Some of my favorite photos happen in between the "say cheese" moments. The giggles, the running around, the bear hugs, the little personalities that make your family yours.

So if you've been putting off family photos because you're worried your kids won't cooperate... don't.

We'll take breaks when we need to. We'll play games. We'll be goofy. We'll roll with whatever the day gives us.

I promise I'm way less worried about getting the "perfect" picture than I am about capturing your family as they are right now.

Parents... what's something your kids have done during family photos that makes you laugh now?
