Wildlife Photography He has attained both a Bachelors of Science degree in Wildlife Management and a Master of Science degree in Administration of Justice.

After a rewarding career as a Virginia game warden and Alaska park ranger, Ken has carried his motivation and enthusiasm for wildlife protection over to his passion of wildlife photography. Ken's interest in photography began at a young age. Wildlife photography has always been his concentration. The majority of his images utilize available early morning and late afternoon light to capture the nat

ural color and beauty of wildlife. His photographs are primarily taken within National Parks and Fish & Wildlife Refuges and strictly of wild animals. An award winning photographer (National Wildlife Federation, National Parks Competition, Sony International Photography Contest, Popular Photography), Ken's images have adorned a number of magazine covers and calendars. Ken currently teaches wildlife photography through full day classes and private lessons, leads international photo tours and participates in art festivals along the east coast.

In addition to the mountain goat and moose newborns, our Colorado Rockies trip last month also gave us the opportunity to photograph young bighorn sheep. Wildlife photography has plenty of days when you don't see much at all, which makes moments like this even more rewarding. While photographing a herd of mountain goats, several nannies had newborn kids. Then, as if on cue, all the young goats climbed onto the same rock and began playing together. It's one of those rare scenes you always hope for but never expect. Seeing them all together through my viewfinder was one of those moments that makes all the early mornings, long hikes, and countless hours in the field worthwhile. Honored and humbled to have received the public vote and have this image selected for the front cover of the National Wildlife Federation's 2026–2027 calendar. This is a moment I'll never forget. Watching these young polar bear cubs emerge from their den and race across the Arctic tundra on their newly discovered legs was truly unforgettable. Soon, they would begin their journey with their mother toward Hudson Bay, where the sea ice would become their home and hunting grounds. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who voted and to the National Wildlife Federation for this special honor. Moments like these are why I love wildlife photography. Blue Skies.

Another image from a great trip to Florida two weeks ago. This Reddish Egret put on quite a show, performing its energetic feeding dance multiple times while pursuing a needlefish. Watching these birds hunt is always entertaining, and this encounter at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge was no exception. Blue Skies. Since I had an art show in Casper, Wyoming, this past weekend, I made a stop at Devil's Tower along the way. Made famous by Steven Spielberg's 1977 sci-fi classic Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the iconic landmark seemed like the perfect place to spend an evening under the stars. Forecasts were calling for a chance to see the northern lights, so I stayed until midnight Thursday hoping for a display. While the aurora never materialized, the clear, dark skies provided a beautiful view of the Milky Way rising behind the tower. Not a bad consolation prize. Our annual tradition is taking the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge into Yellowstone National Park for opening weekend. The highway typically opens on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting and depending on how quickly crews can clear the snow. Both last year and this year, late Thursday snowstorms delayed the opening until Saturday.

It was a beautiful drive in, with plenty of visitors already enjoying the park for May. On the way home, we were fortunate to have this cinnamon-phase black bear all to ourselves. The bear was right along the roadside, casually grazing in the grass. Good times and a perfect way to wrap up another memorable Beartooth trip. (Canon R1/400mm 2.8 III/1600th/f2.8/ISO 1250/+.3)
