"The Cold War"
The only edits were 1. Lighten the beer mug by 9 "units" in Photoshop, and 2. Fill out the edges where the viewfinder went beyond the edges of the backdrop.
This is what I had in mind when I started working on this nearly a week ago -- thought it would make a nice challenge. It did!
Took plenty notes today. HUGE Problem was that I have only two hands to do everything needed for the shot -- pour warm water, pour beer, jiggle the CO2, grab remote trigger, FIRE! PRIME Moment for getting the v***r was about 2 secs. after pouring on the water. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to take care of both mugs, get rid of the glass of warm water, grab the trigger, hit FIRE with perfect timing to capture the v***r. Think that's easy? Then you might try to synchronize "maximum foam" with "maximum v***r."
It all came down to ONE shot.
I am overjoyed with the results. Not perfect, mind you, but I am VERY Happy with all of it.
I know you like the behind-the-scenes details. I will start on that tomorrow. I'm afraid I cannot separate this photograph from that chilly, drizzly night at the Iron Curtain – Nov. 24, 1982 – and another night in downtown Berlin – Feb. 16, 1990. In '82, even as I drew what I knew might be my dying breath, I SWORE revenge would be mine. Fortunately, the border guard held his fire. Seven years later, I had all the revenge I needed.
