Want your kids to feel safe, seen, comfortable, and eager to be their authentic selves? Consider a session at home (can be outdoors if you don’t want to stay inside!).

I have yet to photograph a session at home that didn’t result in images that feel: true to life, feral, sweet, creative, like a time-capsule for whatever season you are in. And easy! Did I mention easy? No getting everyone pull away from their current activity, put on shoes, pile into the car. Kids and Dads are much happier at home and Mom you get visual evidence of the home, life and family you are creating with your people.

Hot take: sessions with toddlers (the more the merrier) are some of the easiest and most fun to photograph, especially when you stay at or close to home.

I thrive off of the chaos and joy inherent of a family with young children. Want to paint feet, climb trees and walk to the park? Invite me please! Allowing children to do what feels fun to them lets us create natural, beautiful images that feel true.

I am so thankful for Portland Family Photographer Photos and Films and her fantastic Layers of Love course, which I completed this summer. I learned to see full potential of any location, and how to create connection and meaningful images within them. 10/10 recommend if you want to see your images with fresh eyes and learn how to improve them. These images are from one of her assignments :)

I struggle to show up authentically here. I still feel like I don’t really grasp social media - it’s a hollow place for me. I know that’s not the case for all but I honestly don’t have time to change that and I think I’ll always prefer in person connection. I swerve between being all business or too awkwardly vulnerable, all while feeling put on the spot and not finding much joy from it.

But my newsletter is a different story. I only write “The Chaos Journal” when I’m feeling inspired and truly have something to say, often about what it’s like raising four kids in a blended q***r family, living the peri-menopausal life, creating meaningful art, plus lots of pretty pics from recent sessions and openings/events.

I feel so lucky to be able to capture families year after year, watching their children grow into their own personalities and getting to know them on a deeper level.

And we don’t have to reinvent the wheel each year! This family loves to have me out to their home around their daughter’s birthday, where we always capture a porch photo, celebratory bday treats, and whatever her special interests are at the time (currently princess dresses). Together we create a perfect time capsule for each year.

Why I love to bring a roll of black and white film to your session: creating multiple exposures, the way it gives light/windows a dreamy quality, the grain, the simplicity it lends to an image when colors can sometimes feel like clutter (don’t get me wrong I love color too!). It’s always in my bag!
