A sudden flash of red against the quiet marsh. ✨

This is the backstory behind "King of the Cattails." While walking by the local pond, I watched this blackbird launch from his perch. For just a split second, that brilliant red highlight caught the light against his dark feathers. It’s a moment of sudden, quiet power—the kind of art that brings a grounding, dynamic energy to any wall it lives on.
This fleeting, still moment is now available as a print. Link in bio.

The warmth that lingers when the flame is gone.

The final chapter of the "Fire Thief" series, Embers of Ash, explores the legacy of the journey. The bird remains perched on the weathered spire of a dead Ponderosa, Fire Thief glows with the memory of the stolen fire.

Why I named him "The Vernal Vanguard." 👑

Here is the backstory behind the shot. This isn't just a Yellow-rumped Warbler; it's the attitude. I captured him along the Shoshone River, and the first thing I noticed was that patch of yellow on his head. It looked exactly like a crown of gold.

He was facing me, posing with this intense, youthful energy—like a prince leading the spring season in. That mix of the golden crown and the vernal energy is what brings this print to life.

A direct gaze from the riverbank. ✨

This is "The Vernal Vanguard." Captured along the Shoshone River, just outside Yellowstone. The water was rushing by, but this Yellow-rumped Warbler paused, turned, and looked right at me. He held his ground with a quiet, golden confidence.

A small, vernal spirit for your walls. Prints are available via the link in bio.

The Silent Arrow

Before the fire, there was the ladder.

This is "The Silent Arrow." I see this bird not just as a creature, but as The Architect. He is a sharp, living brushstroke set against the soft, static sky, calculating the distance to the heavens.

Same eyes, different targets. 🦊

Here is the backstory to "The Same Curious Glance." I found these siblings on their den right after dinner. They were completely relaxed, but their instincts were sharp.
I loved that they shared the exact same intensity in their gaze, but they were splitting the work. One was analyzing me; the other was scanning the woods. It’s a moment that shows both their bond and their individuality.

United by blood, divided by curiosity. ✨

This is "The Same Curious Glance." I caught these siblings relaxing on their den after dinner. They share the same intense stare, but in this moment, their worlds were split. One was watching me, the stranger; the other was watching the wild forest.

A still moment of connection, now available as a print via the link in bio.

A single spark hidden in plain sight.

In the "Ethereal Wilds," every motion carries the weight of a myth. This piece, A Flicker of Fire, captures the Northern Flicker at the peak of its secret. Legend says the bird hid the final ember of stolen fire within its mouth to bring it safely back to earth. This split-second capture—crisp in focus against a desaturated, backdrop—reveals that stolen warmth.

The color grading intentionally pulls from the "Fire Thief" lore creating a painterly atmosphere that feels more like an ancient memory than a photograph.

I went looking for Ospreys, but I found a Prince instead. 👑

Here is the backstory behind "The Sun Crowned Prince." I was sitting on the banks of the Shoshone River in Yellowstone, totally focused on a massive Osprey nest. But then this little guy showed up.

He was just a Yellow-rumped Warbler, but in that moment, he had such a vernal, golden energy. He felt like a young ruler of the branches. It’s a favorite memory of mine—being distracted by the small, beautiful details while waiting for the "big" sights.

I was watching for giants, but was graced by a prince instead. ✨

While sitting by the Shoshone River in Yellowstone, waiting on osprey, this little Yellow-rumped Warbler appeared. He held such vernal, golden energy just for a fleeting moment. A true "Sun Crowned Prince" of the riverbank.

A little piece of riverside gold for your space, available via the link in bio.

The Fire Thief’s Roost

He sits on the boundary of the living and the dead.

This is "The Fire Thief’s Roost," the first piece in a new series exploring the folklore of the Ethereal Wilds. Here, the forest is not just wood and leaf; it is a vault of old magic, and the Northern Flicker is not merely a bird, but the Keeper of the Flame.

Ancient legends tell us that when the world was cold, the Flicker was the only creature brave enough to challenge the Sky. He didn't fly to the heavens; he built a path. He fired a chain of arrows into the firmament—one splitting the nock of the other—creating a ladder to the stars. He climbed this "Silent Arrow" chain, stole a single ember from the gods, and hid it beneath his wings to bring warmth back to the earth.

The journey down scorched him. The heat stained the shafts of his feathers a brilliant, hidden red and left a black mark of soot upon his chest.

In this image, the purple shadows of the forest try to claim him, but the red tinge of his feathers pushes the darkness back. He rests on a withered Ponderosa spire—the ash of his labors—remaining a gilded vessel holding the memory of fire.

Swipe through to see the details of this legend, and the final slide for the camera settings used to capture the Keeper.
