I had a neat experience this weekend at the Hendrix Preserve. As I was making the loop, I noticed that it looked like they were banding birds. I stopped over and talked to them for a minute. They had a juvenile indigo bunting that they were processing and getting ready to turn loose. I mentioned that I had some pics of a banded pine warbler that I had taken over the last 3 years. I had some pretty close shots that showed the numbers on the band. I sent them in and got back an email from the professor who was running the operation. She confirmed that it was one that they had banded back in 2023. At the time the bird was at least 2 years old which makes it at least 5 years old now and maybe older. What I thought was pretty cool was the pic she sent me of the day they banded it. Hopefully, I will get to see this guy again.

This will be my last post on my trip to San Diego. I had a great time checking out the area. I wound up a little short of my goal of 250 lifers but was able to photograph 20 birds I had never seen or photographed. My lifer total is now 232. After thinking about the birds I saw, this one kept coming up as my favorite. It was so active and fun to watch. It is the Reddish Egret. I met some nice people while I was out and about also. Thanks to Neil and Kathy for showing me around. I hope to visit San Diego again someday.
