Delayed cord clamping isn’t just a medical choice—it’s a quiet act of honoring that transition. It allows your baby to receive those final, powerful moments of nourishment, oxygen, and connection before the cord is cut. There’s no rush. No urgency. Just time… exactly as it should be.

As a birth photographer, these are the moments I hold onto the most. The stillness. The emotion. The way your hands instinctively find your baby while the cord still pulses between you. It’s raw, real, and deeply beautiful.

You may be wondering if documenting your birth is something you really need.
Is it really worth it?
It maybe it's too much of a vulnerable moment to have photographed.

But birth isn't just for one day.
It is the beginning of everything that is to come after.

You're not just welcoming a baby, its way more than that. You're witnessing the strength you never knew you had. Your partner is becoming a protector in a way they never expected. Siblings are stepping a new role thats unfamiliar yet so special.
And your family is forever changing.

Let me tell you, birth photography isn't about capturing that perfect moment or posing you just right. ( I would never even think about telling a laboring mother to change positions 😬😅)
Birth photography is about capturing the in between moments. The quiet support holding you, the intensity of each wave your body has as it brings baby closer to being in your arms, the tears rather its a moment of fear or a moment of joy, the RELIEF when you finally hear that first cry and the love that fills the room when time seems to stop.

Because memory is beautiful... but in time its all a blur. Giving birth is such a surreal experience. It feels like a dream. A very intense dream and then you wake up and there's a beautiful baby in your arms or crying in a bedside bassinet.

Because one day, when your child ask about the day they were born, you'll have more than a fuzzy story to tell them, you'll have proof of how deeply they were wanted and how powerful they arrived.

If you're even thinking about documenting your birth, its because a part of you knows how precious and meaningful your birth really is to you. That feeling is worth listening too!

Today is National C-Section Day, and it's a reminder that birth does not have one "right" path.

C-sections can be planned or unexpected. Calm or urgent. Empowering, emotional, overwhelming or all of the above.

They are not the "easy way out". A C-sections is major abdominal surgery followed by motherhood, recovery, learning a new baby and newborn care.

I know this personally. I had a C-section myself. I remember how nervous I was. I had never had surgery before. Then my focus shifted from surgery to being a mom, before my body even knew what happened. The physical recovery and ALL the emotions. It's something you don't fully understand until you live it.

For many families, a C-section is the safest way to have a baby. For others, it's a decision made in the moment out of deep love and protection.

C-section birth is still birth. A mother who gives birth this way is still strong. These stories still deserved to be honored, remembered and spoken about with respect.

There is quite the anxiety in waiting, so let's talk about it.

For you, it's "AM I REALLY READY?"
The birth plan.
The bag by the door.
Wondering if your body will know what to do when the moment comes.

And then there's me.

My phone never leaves my side.
The sound on and ringer up!
Sleeping lightly, showering quickly.
Mid-day naps in case I get that middle of the night call.
Waking up in the middle of the night to check my phone.
Living life in maybe's... maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow, maybe at 3am.
Even making plans is... "I'll be there, unless I'm at a birth."

You're waiting and mine meet in the same place.

They said before birth they had talked about taking their own photos.

And then birth happened.
The intensity.
The love and the moment that changed everything at once.

I remember her asking “did you take any photos or video?”

Later he told me he didn't realize how emotional it would be. When it came time, he wasn’t even thinking about picking up his phone.

He needed to hold her, to feel it, to stay present.

He was grateful someone was there to remember it for them.

Birth doesn't ask you to document it, it asks you to feel it. Sometimes the greatest gift is having someone else to hold the memory, so you can hold each other.
