"Winter's Embrace"

Our trip to Denali coincided with the season's first return of termination dust (what Alaskan's call snow) to the mountains of the mighty Alaskan Range. Low hanging clouds and fog drifted through all day long and left the mountains with a fresh coating of snow in their wake. I spent much of the day with my telephoto lens mounted on my camera and proceeded to pick out these intimate mountain scenes, which I felt best captured the harsh reality of winter's icy grasp returning to reclaim the landscape for yet another season; an unrelenting battle between the mountains and the severe elements that has been playing out here along the Alaskan Range for eons.

Fog rolls off the beautiful Clarion River near Pennsylvania's Cook Forest region during a chilly autumn morning. Just returned from a 5-day solo road trip I took up through northeast Ohio and on into Pennsylvania to photograph the fall colors and autumn scenery.

On a personal note, I'm starting a new full-time job as a botanist and wetland ecologist this week, where I'll be traveling across the country for various projects and then working from home/remotely when not traveling. Really excited about the opportunities this will open up for growing and continuing my landscape photography work. And speaking of which, I've got some big things I'm working on for next year that hopefully I'll be able to announce here soon! Stay tuned! :)

Our last night in Alaska and the thick clouds and rain storms that have blanketed the area for nearly a week straight finally broke right before sunset and the sky exploded with color. I rushed down to this bog which I had scouted out earlier in the week with just minutes to spare as the colorful light was fading fast. Saddened to be leaving this amazing place, but I know I will certainly be back in the near future. Alaska was everything I had hoped for and more!

Spent yesterday exploring the sights and scenes around Anchorage. This is the beautiful and powerful Thunderbird Falls which is located just outside the city. Very jealous the residents of Anchorage have so many awesome natural features located in such close proximity. In Alaska, wilderness is often right outside the front door!

Edit: Re-uploading after some minor edits

Autumn is currently in full swing up here in Alaska, and the high tundra vegetation above the treeline is ablaze with golden, orange, and red tones. The so-called "termination dust" has begun to arrive on the mountain peaks above 5000 feet elevation. This place is indescribably beautiful and is everything I had envisioned and more. This image is from yesterday up in the Hatcher's Pass area, where we braved the wind, rain, and sleet showers. Now we're headed up to Denali National Park for a few days, and I'm beyond excited to see and experience what Denali has in store for us!

"Nature's Amphitheater"

The lower falls of Hill Creek during a misty morning from earlier this summer. This incredible waterfall tucked deep with the mountains of southern West Virginia reminded of waterfalls scenes I've seen from the Pacific Northwest due to the amazing lush greenery found along the slopes at the base of the falls. Speaking of landscapes from another region, I'm headed off to Alaska for the next couple weeks and I'm super pumped about it! I've never been up there before and I'm really looking forward to experiencing and photographing the diverse terrain of open spaces, towering mountain peaks, primordial forests, and abundant wildlife! 🏔🌲🐻

Hopefully I can get some great photographs to share with you all!

"Beauty at Big Run"

The tea-colored tannic water, uniquely textured rocks, and surrounding dense thickets of rhododendron shrubs make this falls one of my favorites in all I've photographed in West Virginia. Just be sure to have 4 wheel drive and/or a high clearance vehicle in order to reach these falls. Found that one out the hard way!

Pre-dawn glow illuminates a thick fog that had settled in at the top of the Dolly Sods plateau. Made a whirlwind trip up to the mountains of West Virginia recently to escape the blistering Ohio heat and met up with my good buddy John Polascik. We were rewarded with some spectacular conditions like this foggy sunrise. Can always count on a great time at my "home away from home" in the Mountaineer State 🌄🌲📷.

"Sentinel"

Devil's Tower National Monument
Crook County, Wyoming

The geological marvel that is Devil's Tower in northeastern Wyoming rises high above the surrounding landscape and a passing evening thunderstorm provides some spectacular light right at sunset.

It was this time last year that myself and my family embarked on an epic road trip from Ohio out to far northwestern Montana and this was one of many stops we made along the journey. I decided to revisit some of my images from that trip, and found this one that was sitting untouched on my hard drive. After some quick edits, this has turned into one of my favorites from that entire trip. I'm in love with the western landscapes and I've already begun planning a return trip out there come next year!

"Light Show"

I spent the past weekend camping up in the Allegheny National Forest in northwestern Pennsylvania, and although I didn't see a single firework the entire holiday weekend, I was able to witness one of the most dazzling light shows on earth. I stood in awe as the Milky Way galaxy streaked across the cosmos, faint green airglow filled in patches of the night sky, and fireflies danced above the marsh. No fancy pyrotechnics needed here in this version of nature's own fireworks!
