Labor Day always lands a little differently for people who make things for a living.

Today's slower pace is a good reminder of the effort behind every finished work, including "On the Move," today's feature.

Slow it down and take some time to browse my online gallery this weekend.

Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

From my collection, this is: "Golden Sentinel"

I have spent several evenings over the past few years among the bristlecone pines in the White Mountains of Eastern California, photographing the Milky Way rising over these ancient trees. This is a magical place and one of my favorite locations on the planet. That's because bristlecone pines are the world's oldest living things, and for me, it always feels like an honor to be in their presence.

One of the secrets to these trees' longevity is their dense, resinous wood that's highly resistant to insects and fungus. The tree’s wood never rots in this arid, high-altitude realm. And when a tree dies, as the one pictured here has, the wood simply erodes and is polished by the sun, wind, ice and blowing snow. The dead tree pictured here is likely well over 3,000 years old and has probably been standing on this 11,000-foot-high outcropping following its death for another five centuries. The bristlecone’s exposed wood displays a rich, honeyed hue, especially when illuminated by the setting sun, or in this case, an LED panel at midnight.

Golden Sentinel portrays an ancient, weathered bristlecone, its honeyed, wind-polished wood glowing against a star-strewn sky. The luminous trunk set against the deep, cosmic backdrop of the Milky Way provides a striking contrast between earth and sky. Detailed textures of the gnarled wood convey resilience and age, while the rocky foreground anchors the composition. An evocative piece that brings natural wonder and celestial depth to any room — a refined addition to your space.

Flying to Bodrum, Turkey, today. Will hop on a boat and then sail around the Aegean, stopping at several Greek Isles. My Odyssey is supposed to last only a couple weeks, not 20 years. Hopefully, we won’t encounter any Cyclopses, Sirens or Scyllas. But I’ll keep you posted either way. Stay tuned. Adventures await.

There's a moment every collector remembers, standing in front of a work and just knowing.

"Positano Sunset" has had that moment with a few collectors.

What's the story behind the first work of art that ever stopped you in your tracks?
