Friday night lights in Portland is pageantry.

It is sound. Color. Timing. Pride.

And on this night, It was Senior Night under the Ray Akins lights.

Parents walking their kids one more time

it was goodbye and thank you at the same time.

This is what most phones miss.

The rose on a seniorโ€™s wrist.

The drumline freeze-frame.

The pom in mid-air.

The hug that lasts longer because everyone knows this season is finite.

People often ask why I prefer action shots over posed photos. Truth isโ€ฆ itโ€™s personal for me.

My son is autistic and getting a โ€œperfect posed photoโ€ has never really been easy. Heโ€™s got one pose he likes, and honestly, itโ€™s usually not the greatest for pictures. But the moment he steps onto a field or court, everything changes.

Heโ€™s smiling. Heโ€™s confident. Heโ€™s completely in his element. And just like some of his teammates, after he makes a great play, he starts looking over toward the camera with that proud grin. Those are the moments I love capturing most. The real ones.
Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™ve fallen in love with sports and candid photography. Itโ€™s not about forcing a smile or stiff poses.
