😳 A CHILD SHOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TERRORIZE AN ENTIRE CLASSROOM EVERY SINGLE DAY.

And before somebody twists this...

this is not about expecting perfect children.

Kids have bad days.

Kids struggle.

Kids need support.

Kids make mistakes.

Absolutely.

But there is a point where ONE student’s repeated behavior starts controlling the experience of everybody else in the room.

And teachers know exactly what that looks like.

The lesson stops.

Again.

Everybody waits.

Again.

The teacher redirects.

Again.

Students move seats.

Again.

Someone calls for help.

Again.

The class finally settles.

And then the exact same thing happens tomorrow.

And Tuesday.

And Wednesday.

And Thursday.

At some point, we need to talk about the OTHER children in that classroom.

The quiet kid trying to learn.

The student who finally understands the lesson and loses another 15 minutes.

The kid who already struggles to focus.

The student who starts dreading that class because they know what is coming.

They matter too.

That is the part people keep skipping.

When one child requires support, absolutely support that child.

But support cannot mean allowing the same student to repeatedly destroy the learning environment for everybody else.

I taught middle school for 13 years.

There is nothing more frustrating than watching an entire room of students lose instructional time over and over while you are expected to keep pretending the situation is manageable.

Because eventually, it is not.

And teachers should be able to say that out loud without being accused of not caring about the student causing the disruption.

You can care deeply about that child...

and still recognize that 25 other children deserve a functioning classroom.

Both things can be true.

One student’s needs matter.

So does everybody else’s right to learn.

Signed,

Elle

Lamech's photo session included his truck and the football field. Both were perfect or his photos!

PS. I saw the deer on my way home from his session. I missed the big buck in the same field, though.

Although our plans to take photos near water did not work out this weekend, it was great spending some time with the Martin family (I still think of the boys are middle school kids--lol).

We are lucky to have the Peak nearby.

Aubrey senior session was supposed to be last week when the rain was ugly and the wind was crazy. Luckily, we were able to reschedule to today, and her mom found a wild flower garden (Thanks, Mr. Gray). What a perfect day!

At one point, her mom gasped...she had photo of Audrey when she was pretty young with a similar posing situation with a fence--and she'd just seen it again this morning. I love aha moments!

Best of luck to the Corry Cross-Country teams! Run hard!
