A piece of Cortland history is preparing to take its final bow.

For decades, the old school on Pearl Street stood as a place where generations of local students learned, laughed, and built memories that would last a lifetime. Long before the new schools and modern classrooms, this building was at the heart of countless childhood stories.

Now, after years of sitting vacant, the former school is set to be demolished, marking the end of an era for our community.

While the building itself may soon be gone, the memories created inside its walls will remain with the thousands of students, teachers, staff, and families who passed through its doors.

These drone photos capture one final look at a landmark that has been part of Cortland’s story for generations.

If you grew up in Warren… you’ve probably looked over at this sign a thousand times.

The iconic WARREN sign on East Market Street has quietly watched generations drive by from the steel mill era… to today’s revival of the city.

East Market Street has long been one of the main gateways into Warren, connecting neighborhoods, businesses, and the people who built this city. Back when Warren was booming with manufacturing, traffic rolled through here daily from workers heading to plants, local shops, and downtown.

Now the sign stands as a reminder of the city’s history, pride, and resilience.

From the glory days of Packard and the steel industry… to the small businesses still keeping Warren moving forward today this stretch of road has seen it all.

Sometimes the most familiar places tell the biggest stories.

Back during Youngstown’s steel boom, this stretch of Federal Street was packed with life local businesses, offices, and foot traffic from workers tied to companies like Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. This area wasn’t just buildings… it was the backbone of a city that helped fuel America’s industrial growth.

As the steel industry declined in the late 1970s, downtown changed fast. A lot of buildings like this were left behind, repurposed, or forgotten. But today, they still stand as a reminder of what Youngstown was and what it’s working to become again.
