Jack Hunt Painting With Light Jack Hunt: Painting with Light. I create painterly fine art photography and mixed media from my original photos. However I make images wherever I find myself.

Every image is edited, truly “painted with light” using pixels — creating a unique style many describe as looking like paintings Art has always been my main interest, I like to paint landscapes and started using photography to record places I intended to paint or draw later. From there it evolved into using the camera to paint with light as an art form of its own. The images in the file “It's like

painting with light” are more in line with what I really like to do with a camera. That being the case I am starting a new community page as a place to share this type of photography. Most of these images are made within a 60 mile circle of my home here in Coshocton Ohio. Sometimes that is the East Coast and sometimes it is West Texas or anyplace in between. There are landscapes from the area and a lot of old architecture and rural abandonment and decay. If you have enjoyed my imagery then I sure hope you LIKE and SHARE my new page with your friends. Top: July 26, 2026I took the original photograph in 2018 purely as a painting reference. I shared the early version more than once back then, and as rough as the 2019 piece still looks, believe it or not… it was even worse before that.Seven years later, after a lot of practice and better tools, this is the same scene reworked. Same lonely farmhouse, same dirt road, same stormy sky — just with clearer vision, stronger atmosphere, and a whole flock of crows that finally felt right.It’s not perfect, but looking at them side-by-side shows me how much a little time and consistent effort can change things.

From reference to finished pieceTop: My digital painting of the classic Shell service station in Walhonding, Ohio — completed in Photoshop.
Bottom: The original black-and-white reference photo of the same deserted building (still standing the last time I visited).I loved bringing the faded old photo back to life with vibrant color, period-correct details, and that warm, nostalgic atmosphere. The old blue pickup, the classic pumps, the “GAS 21.9” sign, and the quiet rural setting all felt like a perfect snapshot of mid-century Americana and my childhood. I grew up the son of a service station owner and pumping gas at a full service gas station at the age of twelve. I really enjoyed working on this one. Hope you like the transformation!— Jack L. Hu

Truck Patch - An Amish farm nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. This one just sort of happened on its own... I love it when that happens. Most of the time I have a plan. This particular day I was actually just learning to use the different tools in ArtRage. I started with a 16x20 canvas and the paint tube tool. Laying lines of color horizontally about 1/3rd of the way up from the bottom across the canvas. A nice gold then some white and more towards the top a line or two of the lightest blue. Then grabbed the Palette knife and began spreading and blending the “paint” to make a nice sky. Mountains or hills seemed to be called for so some blues and purples dragged down to shape the hills. Then I changed over to Photoshop and developed the middle and foreground trees it seemed like a really good place to add an eagle...

"A Portrait of Two People" – Topsail Island, NC – In June a year ago, we spent a wonderful week at Topsail Island. Most mornings Miss Jan slept in, but I was up before dawn with coffee in hand on the condo balcony. The kids kept inviting me to join their sunrise walks on the beach… and I kept politely declining.I had other plans. While they strolled, I was busy taking nearly a thousand photos from that balcony, chasing the perfect moment as the sky lit up. (I may have temporarily lost most of them — don’t ask.) After finally recovering the images and sorting through them for days, this one stood out. From there it became this piece — a mix of photography and creative editing that brought the scene to life. People often see the vastness of the ocean and how small the two figures look in comparison. Others are drawn to the dramatic colors, the rolling waves, or the way the early light reflects on the wet sand. But to me… this isn’t really a seascape or a landscape. It’s a portrait. A quiet portrait of two people sharing a beautiful morning together — tiny against the enormity of the ocean, yet completely wrapped up in their own little world.

A weathered barn with faded red peeling paint stands sentinel in the tall grass, its once-vibrant boards now worn soft by decades of wind and sun. Parked beside it, a rusting Studebaker pickup sits abandoned in the weeds—two relics of a bygone era quietly keeping each other company.
The barn’s great doors hang silent and warped, while the old truck’s paint cracks and flakes away, chrome dulled by time. Together they endure the loneliness of antiquity, side by side in the golden field. Once, this place breathed with life—the creak of the barn doors at harvest, the rumble of the Studebaker’s engine carrying tools and crops at dawn, the rhythm of hard work and simple living. Now only the wind moves through the swaying grass, carrying echoes of stories no one is left to tell. There’s a quiet dignity in their shared decay.
They’ve outlasted their purpose, yet they remain—faithful companions refusing to vanish completely. Two old souls bearing witness to the slow, gentle passage of time.Some things don’t need restoration to hold beauty. Sometimes the most moving stories are written in peeling paint, rust, and the steadfast companionship of what remains
