It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Powell Camera Shop after more than 75 years of service.
This marks the end of an era, beginning with Art Powell’s opening of Powell Camera Shop in 1950. Paul Thiel purchased the store in 1970, followed by his son Mark Thiel, and then Frankie, Mark’s son-in-law.
Powell Camera Shop has been an integral part of our community for so long, and we have cherished the interactions we’ve had with each of you.
We’ve witnessed the growth of your families and been a part of their celebrations and events. Together, we’ve witnessed the remarkable transformation of photography into an industry, and we’ve been privileged to witness the innovations that allow us to capture extraordinary moments from everyday life to grand celebrations and extraordinary imagery.
We will remain open until mid-April, and for the time being, you can still purchase film and drop it off for development.
We express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support, loyalty, and business over the years. We couldn’t have continued our service for as long as we have without your patronage and your desire to capture the special moments in your lives. As we reflect on the decades of service, we hope we’ve been able to help you preserve these moments for future generations to cherish.
May you continue to create and capture the special moments of your life and continue to share your stories with those you love.
Warmly,
The Thiel and Barron Families
