It's one I see often in labor.

Wide eyes. Panic.

The moment everything suddenly feels bigger than expected.
Most people think a doula is there to suggest positions, apply counter pressure, or remind you to drink water. We absolutely do those things. But so much of our work happens in the quiet moments that most people never notice.

I watch your face.
I notice when your shoulders tense.
I hear the change in your breathing.
I see when your eyes dart to your partner looking for reassurance.
I recognize when fear starts to take over before you ever say a word.

That's my cue.

To remind you to breathe.
To ground you in the present.
To explain what's happening so the unknown becomes less frightening.

To help your partner know how to support you.
To remind you that you are safe, capable, and not alone.

Birth isn't just physical. It's emotional. It's mental. Sometimes it's vulnerable in ways you never expected.

A doula isn't just supporting the labor. We're supporting the human experiencing it.

Sometimes the most important thing I do isn't something you'll ever see in a photograph.

It's helping transform this expression into one of confidence, strength, and trust one breath at a time. 🤍
