pretty photos matter (obviously lol)

but one thing I’ve learned from running a photography business is that being a good photographer and building a business people actually want to book are two completely different skills.

your work might be what makes someone stop scrolling, but there’s so much more happening before they decide to actually inquire.

how your brand makes them feel.
how easy it is to find the info they need.
the experience you give your clients.
your personality.
the reason they connect with YOU instead of 10 other photographers out there.

your photos can get you noticed.
but everything you build around them gives people a reason to choose you.

photographers, what’s one thing you think has helped you get booked besides your photos? 👀

a chilly montana morning with steph + ricky.

we woke up before the sun, wandered through the mountains + let glacier do her thing.

turns out, being freezing cold is a little more romantic when it looks like this. 🥹🏔️

7 years ago, I really thought becoming a better photographer meant learning more.

better settings. better posing. better editing. better gear.

and don’t get me wrong, education has played a HUGE part in the photographer I am today. I’ve learned from some insanely talented photographers and invested in courses that completely changed the way I shoot + run my business.

but some things you just have to learn by doing it.

by making work you love that nobody else seems to care about. by changing your editing style for the 47th time. by taking the technically “wrong” photo and loving it anyway. by comparing yourself to everyone around you and having to find your way back to your own work.

7 years later, I know a hell of a lot more than I did when I started. but I’m also still figuring it out.

and I think I always will be.

photographers…what’s something this job taught you that no course ever could? 👀

Sam + Aaliyah got married in the Rocky Mountain National Park and ended the night eating pizza with their favorite people. as one should. 🤝

Elopements in RMNP are some of my favorites to do. Actually, elopements in ANY National Parks are some of my faves!! from wandering through the trees, reading private vows, and running around the trails in wedding clothes to saying “i do”.

Nothing beats it!!

and then pizza back at the cabin to end the night. literally what more could you want???

days like this >>>>

rmnp, you’ll always have my heart 🥹🏔️

your elopement day can be SO much more than saying your vows + taking pretty photos 🥹

when you take away all the expectations of a traditional wedding day, you suddenly have an entire day to fill with things you actually love doing together.

you can make dinner, go off roading, jump in a lake, have your first dance on top of a mountain. It’s literally whatever feels like YOU!

so if you’re sitting there thinking, “okay but what would we actually do all day if we eloped?” Here are a few ideas to get you started. 🤍

skip the traditional reception dinner + make it an experience instead.

hire a private hibachi chef to come to your airbnb, pour some drinks, change into something comfy + celebrate getting freaking MARRIED over dinner. 🥂

consider this your official permission to get the wedding clothes dirty lol

jump in the lake. run into the ocean. kick your shoes off + get in the river.

imagine coming back to your airbnb after adventuring all day, turning on your favorite playlist, pouring a glass of w**e + making homemade pizzas together.

just the two of you doing something fun together on your wedding night. 🍕

eloping doesn’t mean the people you love can’t still be part of your day. 🤎

before you leave, ask your closest friends + family to write you each a letter.

then find somewhere quiet during your elopement day, sit down together + read them.

fair warning: we’re probably all crying.

if you’ve ever looked at your wedding day plans and thought “you know what this needs? horses.”

I got you.

go trail riding through the mountains, explore somewhere beautiful + make part of your elopement an actual experience instead of another thing on a timeline.

find a quiet lake, grab a canoe + paddle out together.

and yes, we’ll obviously take some incredible photos — but then put the camera down for a minute and just float.

you just got

you’ve decided you want to elope somewhere incredible…

now you just have to figure out WHERE 👀

and when your options include wildflower-covered mountains in crested butte, taking a jeep into the san juans, saying your vows beneath the tetons, exploring glacier national park or running around the washington coast… narrowing it down can feel a little impossible.

because choosing your elopement location isn’t just about finding the prettiest place on pinterest.

it’s about choosing a place that fits the experience you want to have.

do you want to spend the day adventuring somewhere completely wild? bring your closest people along? make an entire weekend out of it? wake up in a cozy mountain town? hike to somewhere secluded? or exchange vows on a moody beach with nobody else around?

that’s where i come in. 🫶🏻

when you book your elopement with me, you’re not expected to show up with an entire wedding already planned.

tell me what you want it to feel like, and i’ll help with the rest — location scouting, permits, timelines, vendor recommendations + all those little logistics you probably didn’t even know you needed to think about.

you bring the “we want to elope.”

i’ll help you figure out the where + how. 🤍

save this for when you’re ready to start planning + send it to your person to see which location they’d choose 👀

madi + travis’ crested butte elopement 🤠🏔️

they started their day getting ready in the most beautiful airbnb tucked away in the mountains of Crested Butte.

before heading out, they shared their first look + private vows right there on the property. just the two of them before the rest of their day began.

then we packed up and headed to Snodgrass with their favorite people for their ceremony.

& apparently, a few uninvited guests got the memo too 😂😂

as we walked up, we were greeted by an entire welcome committee of horses just casually wandering over to say hello. truly could not have planned it better if we tried!!!

madi + travis said their “i dos” surrounded by their people (and a few wedding crashers 🐴) with the mountains behind them.

and because we obviously weren’t don’t get, the three of us headed up to the Umbrella Bar afterwards for portraits in the wildflowers and one hell of a CB sunset.

basically, the kind of day that makes me want to photograph CB elopements over and over and over again!!

planning your own CB elopement? my 2027 books are open + I would LOVE to help you plan a day like this!!!
