156481 delivered to the Navy on Dec 31, 1969 to the Naval Plant Representative in Bethpage, NY. In May 1970 it was finally assigned to Weapons Systems, Naval Aviation Test Center, NAS Patuxent River, MD. In November 1970 the plane was sent back to Bethpage for modifications and then assigned to EA-6B Replacement Air Group, Electronic Attack Squadron 129 (VAQ-129) at NAS Whidbey Island, WA, in January 1971. Three years later it was assigned to the Strike Aircraft Naval Test Center at Patuxent River, To AMARC Sep 1979 as 5A0026. Returned to service in August 1980, the plane was sent to the Naval Aircraft Repair Facility at NAS Alameda, CA. After modifications, the plane was returned to VAQ-129 until August 1985 when it transferred to Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River for flight testing. July 1986 saw the plane assigned to VAQ-130 at Whidbey, and then after about year it went to VAQ-140, also at Whidbey. In June 1992 it again changed squadrons at Whidbey, this time to VAQ-137, until February 1994 when it went back to VAQ-129. In November 1996 the plane again found itself at Patuxent River with Strike Aircraft Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23). In June 1998 the plane transferred to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 9 (VX-9) at NAS China Lake. By April 2002 it was back with VX-23, where it remained until Jun 3, 2010 when it was ferried to the National Naval Aviation Museum as the oldest active EA-6B.
