OK, I’m gonna get on a soapbox for a second. So hear me out.

Why is it the humans want to use animals to justify and explain everything that happens with humans until it comes to birth and nursing and caring for children. Animals birth however they need to, wherever they need to. In the wild. They prepare however they need to they eat, whatever they need to nurse their bodies, including their placenta. The nurse their babies they sleep with their babies. And if something happens to the mother other animals step in and take care, even if they’re not the same kind. They don’t get weirded out by another baby, drinking their milk. They don’t get weirded out by adopting animals of other species, they just do it because it’s a living thing that needs care. Period.

So why is it that if a mom is struggling to produce milk or just needs a break we act like it’s so bizarre for another mom to step in and help with her baby, even if that includes nourishing, it?

So why is it that we as a society have villainized and politicized adopting a baby that doesn’t look like you no matter which direction it goes.

Why is it that we as a society have decided that birthing where we feel safe, nourishing our bodies how we feel we need to, sleeping with our babies to feed and comfort them at all hours a day or night is suddenly terrible?

When did we suddenly stop listening to our intuition, stop doing what God and nature intended?

Oh yeah, right around the time baby formula, and Va€€!n3$ were invented. Hmm must be a coincidence. 🤔🧐🤷‍♀️

The Monday before Thanksgiving has the highest rates of medically induced labor.

Holidays are not medical reasons for inductions.

But your provider will not present it to you as a holiday induction.

They'll bamboozle you by saying it's:

"Big baby"
"Small pelvis"
"Aging placenta"
"Small baby"
"Low fluid"
"Past due date"
"No cervical change"
"High blood pressure"
"No reason to stay pregnant any longer."
And so much more.

PLEASE STAY ON YOUR TOES! And if you feel like you need an extra advocate, or just decide to skip the drama and have a home birth, I’m here to help! 😆🙌🏻

P.S. Is there anything more perfect and magical than watching a mama peacefully marvel at her new baby in a pool instead of the insane moments after a hospital birth of baby snatched away for stats and tests. 😍😍

In 1929 Ge**er began an advertising campaign to convince dieticians and pediatricians that canned baby food was just as nutritious as homemade food, and even better because it was scientifically prepared.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As part of the campaign, doctors received free Ge**er products for patients. Ge**er also funded research touting the health benefits of their food. That research—vaguely worded and devoid of peer review—was published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, positioning it as scientific fact.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alongside these efforts, Ge**er stated that women who prepared their own baby food were neglecting their husbands—and babies. One 1933 ad read, “For Baby’s Sake, Stay Out of the Kitchen!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alongside these efforts, Ge**er advocated for starting solids at 3 months old. And by the 1950’s—after 20 years of advertising—the average age of introducing solids fell to just 6 weeks old.💔
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since then the medical community realized that too-early introduction of solids displaced valuable nutrition from breast milk/formula. The consensus among medical institutions today (AAP, U.S. National Institutes for Health, and World Health Organization) is that it’s best to introduce solids at 6 months old. It is at this time that most babies are developmentally ready to eat and need more iron. Conveniently, 6 months is also when babies are capable of feeding themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Baby food was invented. Mom guilt was marketed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is no perfect order of introducing solids. No no need for “stages” of thickness. These were all constructs in the name of profit.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Convenience has its place. I love a good yogurt pouch and rely on Cheerios when traveling. But the idea that real food has to be hard isn’t good for anyone. Babies don’t need banana pudding or pricey pouches—a banana is fine!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is a reason feeding feels complicated. Corporations spent the last century telling your grandmothers and great-grandmothers that they would be bad moms and wives if they didn’t buy pre-prepared baby food. So the next time you feel a twinge of guilt for feeding your baby YOUR way, remember that it’s not you. It’s history.

A beautiful baby boy was born today! This right here is why I love my job! Mama is 39 years old, this is her 9th baby, and he was 42+4 when he decided to make his entrance. For so many reasons almost any midwife would have refused her and sent her to a hospital. But my birth keeper partner and I got to support her in a flawless and beautiful home birth that was witnessed by most of her children. 6 kids ranging in age from 19 to 2 years old sat around the room but you could have heard a pin drop as they watched in awe, the strength and determination of their mom, as she caught her own baby in the water. It was a quick but powerful birth, and I am so thankful we were welcomed into her space to witness such a special moment.

There is nothing quite like the excitement and anticipation of waiting for a baby that’s “over due”! 🙌🏻
