Here's a pretty simple test for your current headshot...

If someone who has never met you saw your photo online and then met you in person tomorrow, would they immediately recognize you?

If the answer is no...it might be time for an update. 😂

A good headshot doesn't need to make you look 10 years younger.

It doesn't need to make you look like a completely different person.

It should look like you.

The current you.

Because your headshot is often one of the first introductions someone has to you before a meeting, an interview, a networking event, or even deciding whether to work with your business.

You want them to meet you and think, "Yep, that's exactly who I expected."

Not, "Wait...is that the same person?" 😂

Hair changes, glasses change, styles change, and yes, we change too.

It's not a bad thing, but your headshot should keep up with you. 💕

There are some birthdays that just deserve a little extra celebration. 🎉

And turning 50 is definitely one of them.

We throw parties, plan trips, go out for amazing dinners...so why not celebrate a milestone birthday with a photoshoot too?

Not because you're trying to look younger or need a reason to prove anything, but because you've lived 50 years worth celebrating!

All the experiences, the accomplishments, the hard things you've made it through, and the people you've loved.

But more importantly, celebrating the woman you've become along the way!

I absolutely love when women decide a milestone birthday is reason enough to step in front of my camera and create beautiful portraits of themselves.

Because 50 isn't something to hide from!

And I'd say 50 looks pretty damn good on her! 🔥💕

Can we officially retire the idea that everyone has to perfectly match for family photos? 😂

You do NOT need five people wearing the exact same shade of blue and khaki.

In fact, I'd rather you didn't.

The goal is to coordinate, not clone each other.

Pick a few colors that work well together and then let everyone dress like themselves.

Different textures, layers, shades, and a little pattern mixed in for good measure.

Your family doesn't walk around dressed identically in real life, so there's no reason everyone has to suddenly become a matching set for family photos.

And honestly, when everyone feels comfortable in what they're wearing, it shows.

So yes...please coordinate.

But leave the matching uniforms at home. 😂💕

Branding photos don't always have to show you "doing" something.

Sometimes you are the brand.

Especially when you own a service-based business.

People aren't necessarily choosing between physical products on a shelf. They're deciding who they trust, who they connect with, and ultimately who they want to work with.

That's why branding photos can be as simple as creating a variety of portraits that show a little more personality than your traditional headshot.

Different expressions.

Different poses.

Different looks.

Images that can be used throughout your website, social media, marketing materials, and anywhere else you're showing up as the face of your business.

We created these right here in my studio. No office to photograph. No products to hold. No pretending to work at a laptop just because that's what a "branding session" is supposed to look like. 😂

Just professional portraits that feel like you and give you more than one image to represent your business.

Because sometimes the most important thing your branding photos need to show...

is the person your clients are actually going to work with. 💕

It feels a little strange to start talking about photography again after everything our area has been through.

The derecho left so much damage behind, and I know there are still people cleaning up, waiting on repairs, working through insurance, replacing what was lost, and trying to get life back to some version of normal.

So I haven't really known when the "right" time was to start sharing my work again.

But today felt like a good day to ease back into it.

And honestly, this image feels like the perfect one.

It skirts the line between branding and bo***ir, but we're calling it glam branding...because it fits her and it fits her business.

That's one of the things I love about branding photography.

It doesn't have to look corporate.

It doesn't have to be a blazer, crossed arms, and a white background.

Your branding images should feel like you.

Your personality.
Your energy.
Your style.

For her, that meant something a little more glamorous, a little more edgy, a little more confident, and a little less traditional.

And I absolutely love it.

I'm still thinking about everyone who is working through the aftermath of the storm, but I'm also slowly finding my way back to sharing the things I love creating.

This felt like a pretty good place to start. 💕

Happy National Dog Day! 🐾💕

I don't get a ton of requests to include dogs in photoshoots, but I've been lucky enough to photograph a few over the years.

One session in particular has always stayed with me.

It was around Christmas, and the family knew their beloved dog was nearing the end of it's life. They wanted photos while they still had the chance.

Thankfully, they acted when they did because he passed away just a few days after their session.

I never asked if I could share those images. They were grieving, and it just didn't feel like something I needed to ask for.

But I've never forgotten them.

It's one of those reminders of just how important photographs can become...sometimes much sooner than we ever expect.

So instead, for National Dog Day, I'm sharing one of my own.

Please forgive the photo of a photo. 😂 The original was taken back in the 1990s, long before our phones held thousands of pictures at a time.

If you've ever loved a dog, you know they're never "just a dog."

They're family. And we never, ever get enough time with them. ❤️🐾

Business Visibility Tip #1

Where's the first place you go when you're looking for a local business?

For me, it's usually Google.

I look at the reviews.

I check the hours.

And then...

I look at the photos.

What does the storefront look like?

Who works there?

Does it feel welcoming?

Professional photos on your Google Business Profile aren't just there to fill space.

They're often the first impression someone has of your business.

Your website matters.

Your social media matters.

But don't forget about one of the places people are already searching for you. 💕
