If you've ever thought about having portraits taken but immediately followed it with...

"Maybe after I lose a little weight."

"Maybe when life slows down."

"Maybe when I feel more confident."

You're not alone.

Most women don't struggle with finding reasons to do a portrait session.

They struggle with giving themselves permission.

Permission to be in front of the camera, to celebrate themselves, to exist in photos for reasons other than documenting everyone else.

The truth is, there will always be some other reason to wait, but there is also something really powerful about deciding that who you are today is worth remembering, now.

And if you've been thinking about it, I'd love to help you tell your story...all of it. πŸ’•

One of my favorite things about a portrait session is that we don't have to choose just one version of you.

A lot of women come in thinking they need to decide who they're going to be for their photos.

Professional.
Glamorous.
Casual.
Creative.

But why choose?

You're probably all of those things.

That's why I love sessions with enough time to explore different looks and different sides of your personality.

Because the woman who shows up for work every day is still the same woman who deserves to feel beautiful.

The woman who takes care of everyone else is still the same woman who has dreams, confidence, humor, and a story worth telling.

You don't have to fit into a single category and your portraits don't have to either. πŸ’•

I think one of the reasons I love photographing women is that no woman is ever just one thing.

The woman running a business might also be the woman binge-watching reality TV in sweatpants.

The woman everyone turns to for advice might secretly be figuring things out as she goes.

The woman who seems confident might still have moments of self-doubt.

The woman who takes care of everyone else might be completely exhausted.

We're all made up of layers, which is what makes women so interesting!

No single photo could ever tell the whole story.

But sometimes it can capture a piece of it. πŸ’•

Here's something a lot of business owners don't realize...

The photos on your Google Business Profile matter.

A lot.

Think about it. When you're looking for a restaurant, salon, contractor, boutique, or pretty much any local business, what's one of the first things you do?

You look at the photos.

You want to see what the space looks like.
You want to get a feel for the business.
You want to know who you're going to be working with.

And yet so many businesses are relying on outdated cell phone photos, random customer uploads, or images that don't really showcase what makes them special.

That's where professional business photography comes in.

Not the stiff, corporate kind.

The kind that helps people see your space, your products, your team, and the experience you provide before they ever walk through the door.

It's one of those things that works for your business every single day, often without you even thinking about it.

So if you've ever looked at your Google Business Profile and thought, "I should probably update those photos someday..." this is your reminder that someday might be today. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•

Can we talk about the beach for a minute?

Because when most people think about senior photos, they tend to think of parks, fields, or downtown locations.

But the beach? It's such an underrated option.

There's something about the combination of sand, water, and open sky that creates a completely different feel than anywhere else.

It can be casual and relaxed.

It can be elegant and dramatic.

It can feel adventurous, peaceful, or even a little nostalgic.

And the best part is that no two beach sessions ever look exactly the same. The light changes, the waves change, the sky changes...which means every session feels unique.

Plus, let's be honest... Northwest Indiana is lucky to have some pretty incredible beaches.

If you're trying to decide where to have your senior photos taken, don't overlook the shoreline. It might just become your favorite backdrop. πŸŒŠπŸ’•

If your child is part of the Class of 2027, now is actually a really great time to start thinking about senior photos.

Not because I'm trying to rush you, but because one of the biggest misconceptions about senior photos is that they have to happen all in one day.

Spoiler...they don't!

In fact, some of my favorite senior experiences have been spread out over multiple sessions.

Maybe we photograph them in the summer when everything is green and vibrant.

Then again in the fall when the colors change.

And maybe one more time in the spring with their cap & gown!

The result is a collection of images that tells a much bigger story of their senior year.

That's one of the reasons I love my "all your best images" sessions so much. We have the flexibility to create something that's completely customized to your senior instead of trying to fit everything into a single afternoon.

Some seniors are perfectly happy with an Express Session....others love the idea of documenting their entire senior year.

Neither option is wrong....it's just about finding what fits your family best. πŸ’•

I think glamour photography has gotten a bad reputation over the years.

For a long time, people pictured stiff poses, over-the-top retouching, and those cheesy mall portraits from decades ago.

But glamour photography today is something entirely different.

It's beautiful, intentional, and for many women, it's the first time they've truly slowed down long enough to see themselves with a little kindness.

Because let's be honest...

Most women spend far more time criticizing themselves than appreciating themselves.

They focus on the things they want to change.
The weight they want to lose.
The wrinkles they wish weren't there.
The flaws they notice every time they look in the mirror.

That negative self-talk becomes so normal that many women don't even realize they're doing it anymore.

Then they see a beautiful portrait of themselves...not a filtered selfie or a rushed snapshot where you guess how to pose...but an actual portrait with proper lighting and posing guidance.

And for a moment, they see what everyone else has been seeing all along....Beauty. Confidence. Strength.

And sometimes that's exactly what they needed.

Not because a photograph changes who they are, but because it reminds them of who they've been all along πŸ’•

That's a wrap! πŸŽ‰

Yesterday's 40 Over 40 session was so much fun, and I already know she's going to have a very difficult time narrowing down her favorites.

There are SO many good images.

The kind where you're scrolling through them thinking, "Okay, but I love this one too..." over and over again. πŸ˜…

And can we talk about how stunning she looked?

A huge thank you to Erica () for helping her look and feel her best. One thing I love about Erica's work is that she never makes someone look like a different person. She simply enhances what's already there, and this client's natural beauty absolutely shined through.

As for me... let's just say this behind-the-scenes photo is proof that my clients are the ones who are supposed to look fabulous at the end of a session. πŸ˜‚

Now it's time for me to dive into these images, and I honestly cannot wait to see them on the big screen.

Stay tuned... this is a good one. πŸ’•

Confession...

I still get nervous before my own photoshoots.

You'd think after years of being a photographer, I'd be completely over it by now. But every time I'm the one stepping in front of the camera instead of standing behind it, those little thoughts still show up.

What if I feel awkward, don't like any of the photos or worse! What if I look older, heavier, or more tired than I think I do?

Sound familiar?

The funny thing is, I hear these same concerns from clients all the time. And every time, I understand them because I've had them too.

Being photographed can feel vulnerable.

You're trusting someone else to see you... and then show you what they see.

But here's what I've learned from doing it anyway...I've never regretted having the photos taken, not once.

Have there been images I liked more than others? Of course!

But every time I've stepped in front of the camera, I've walked away with something valuable. Sometimes it was a photo I loved. Sometimes it was a reminder that I'm far more critical of myself than anyone else is.

So if you've ever thought, "It's easy for you to say because you're a photographer," I promise you...

I'm human too. And I still get nervous and self conscious.

I just know from experience that what's waiting on the other side is usually worth it πŸ’•

You know what I love about a simple portrait?

It strips away all the distractions.

No elaborate set.
No dramatic wardrobe.
No props competing for attention.

Just a person.

Their expression.
Their confidence.
Their personality.

And sometimes that's all you need.

Because beauty isn't always found in the big, flashy moments. Sometimes it's found in a quiet glance, a genuine smile, or the way someone carries themselves when they finally stop overthinking and simply show up as they are.

Those images may look simple from the outside, but I think they're often the most powerful.

There's nowhere to hide.

And that's exactly what makes them so beautiful. πŸ’•
