Confession...

I still get nervous before my own photoshoots.

You'd think after years of being a photographer, I'd be completely over it by now. But every time I'm the one stepping in front of the camera instead of standing behind it, those little thoughts still show up.

What if I feel awkward, don't like any of the photos or worse! What if I look older, heavier, or more tired than I think I do?

Sound familiar?

The funny thing is, I hear these same concerns from clients all the time. And every time, I understand them because I've had them too.

Being photographed can feel vulnerable.

You're trusting someone else to see you... and then show you what they see.

But here's what I've learned from doing it anyway...I've never regretted having the photos taken, not once.

Have there been images I liked more than others? Of course!

But every time I've stepped in front of the camera, I've walked away with something valuable. Sometimes it was a photo I loved. Sometimes it was a reminder that I'm far more critical of myself than anyone else is.

So if you've ever thought, "It's easy for you to say because you're a photographer," I promise you...

I'm human too. And I still get nervous and self conscious.

I just know from experience that what's waiting on the other side is usually worth it đź’•

You know what I love about a simple portrait?

It strips away all the distractions.

No elaborate set.
No dramatic wardrobe.
No props competing for attention.

Just a person.

Their expression.
Their confidence.
Their personality.

And sometimes that's all you need.

Because beauty isn't always found in the big, flashy moments. Sometimes it's found in a quiet glance, a genuine smile, or the way someone carries themselves when they finally stop overthinking and simply show up as they are.

Those images may look simple from the outside, but I think they're often the most powerful.

There's nowhere to hide.

And that's exactly what makes them so beautiful. đź’•

Sometimes a woman books a glamour session because she has a reason.

A milestone birthday.
A career accomplishment.
A life change.

And sometimes?

She does it simply because she's tired of putting herself last.

No special occasion.
No one else's idea.
No waiting until she loses weight, gets busier, gets less busy, or feels more confident.

Just a decision to show up for herself.

I think that's pretty powerful.

Because as women, we're often so focused on taking care of everyone around us that we forget we're allowed to celebrate ourselves too.

Not because we earned it.
Not because we checked enough boxes.

But because we're worthy of being seen exactly as we are.

And honestly, I wish more women gave themselves permission to do that.

Not someday....Now. đź’•

Women are so much more than just one thing.

We're professionals.
We're moms.
We're wives.
We're business owners.
We're caretakers.
We're dreamers.
We're confident in some moments and figuring it out in others.

There are so many layers that make up who we are.

That's one of the reasons I love full sessions so much.

We don't have to choose just one version of you.

We can create polished headshots or branding images that help you show up professionally. Then we can transition into glam portraits, beauty images, or whatever version of yourself you want to celebrate and remember.

Because the truth is, all of those women are you.

And I think there's something really special about creating images that honor more than one side of who you are.

You don't have to fit yourself into a single box.

Why should your photos? đź’•

When people think about a photoshoot, they usually picture the polished images.

The gorgeous portraits.
The perfect smile.
The photo that ends up framed on the wall.

And yes, we absolutely create those.

But what people don't always see are the fun moments in between.

The goofy expression.
The unexpected laugh.
The pose that started as a joke.
The moment where everyone just let loose for a second.

Most of the time those images don't make it into the final collection, and that's okay. They still serve an important purpose...they help everyone relax, have fun, and enjoy the experience.

But every once in a while...

One of those fun images turns out to be a favorite.

And I absolutely love when that happens.

Because sometimes the photo you never planned to love ends up being the one that makes you smile the biggest every time you see it đź’•

First, a huge congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🎓

Whether you're heading to college, starting a career, joining the military, taking a gap year, or still figuring out what's next, you've reached an incredible milestone and should be proud of everything you've accomplished.

Now that graduation season is wrapping up for the Class of 2026, it's officially time for the Class of 2027 to start thinking about senior photos.

And don't worry...there's no one-size-fits-all approach here.

Some seniors want a quick and easy experience, which is why I offer Express Sessions. Others want more time, more variety, and packages that include all of their favorite images.

Either way, the goal is the same...creating photos that you'll be excited to look back on years from now.

To the Class of 2026, congratulations on a job well done.

And to the Class of 2027... you're up next. đź’•

You can tell a lot about someone from the headshot they choose to use.

Some people pick the most polished image possible.
Some choose the one where they look the most approachable.
Some want confident and professional.
Others want warm and relatable.

And honestly, none of those choices are wrong.

I think that’s why I enjoy headshots more than people expect me to.

It’s not just standing in front of a backdrop smiling at a camera. It’s figuring out how someone wants to show up in the world—or maybe even how they’re learning to show up.

What do you want your headshot to say and does your current one do the job?

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the long weekend, cookouts, or the unofficial start of summer. It’s a day to reflect on the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the incredible sacrifice made by those who never made it home.

Freedom comes at a cost many of us will never fully understand, and today we honor those who paid that ultimate sacrifice.

From Amy Paris Photography and Midnight Secrets, we extend our deepest gratitude and remembrance to our fallen heroes and the loved ones who carry their memory forward every day ❤️🤍💙

One of the first things people say before a headshot session (or any portrait session) is:

“I hate photos of myself.”

And honestly? I believe them. Because most people have spent years seeing bad phone angles, harsh lighting, awkward snapshots, or photos where someone shoved a camera in their face unexpectedly.

That doesn’t mean you’re not photogenic.

It usually just means nobody has ever photographed you well.

A good headshot isn’t luck. It’s understanding lighting, angles, posing, expression, and how to guide someone in a way that helps them look and feel their best.

You are not expected to magically know what to do in front of the camera....That’s my job!

And one of my favorite moments during a session is when someone sees the back of the camera and goes,
“Wait… that’s me?”

Because usually somewhere in that moment, they realize they should have done this much sooner đź’•

I got you covered, just give me a call and we'll create magic!

One thing I love about photography is that every once in a while, a session comes along that’s completely different from the norm.

Recently, I had someone reach out because she needed headshots for an international resume as she prepares to move overseas.

And honestly? I loved hearing her story.

Hearing what’s driving her to make such a huge life change, what she hopes for, what she’s working toward—it was one of those conversations that sticks with you.

It also taught me something new.

For this particular international resume, she needed not only a traditional head-and-shoulders image, but also a full-length photo as part of the application process.

It’s funny how photography constantly introduces me to things I never would’ve known otherwise.

One session can turn into learning about another culture, another career path, or someone’s dream for their future.

And I think that’s such a cool part of this job 💕
