Who doesn't like a good circus show? Western Maryland Scenic Railroad locomotives 561 and 501, both painted in the classic Western Maryland Railway "Circus" scheme were featured in a special night photoshoot during Railfest, 2025. CSX also sent one of their locomotives, CM44AC no. 7288 to join Railfest, and the night's special photo event.
On a side note, the crew at WMSR applied the finishing touches to locomotive 561 only hours before Railfest that day. The 561 in these photos is about as "fresh" as you can get.

Here's a "part 2" to the set of photos I posted from the 2024 Goodspringer run a few weeks ago. The locations featured in these photos are Schuylkill Haven, Port Clinton, Becks, and Good Spring, respectively.

In May of 2024, Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine and Steam Train in partnership with Dak Dillon Photography offered a photographer's special along the 3/4 mile line to the vista at the top of the grade. These photos featured in this post were from an open grassy spot about halfway up the line. Front and center for this charter was locomotive 123, the museum's operational 42" gauge 0-4-0ST "Lokie" type.

Now that we are officially in the summer season, I'll happily take that snow back....
These photos highlight a brief sequence in which D&RGW (Denver and Rio Grande Western) K-36 class no. 480 pulls forward on the outer track, and backs up onto one of the boarding tracks to her train. Crew 480 accomplished this, all while straddling visiting locomotive RGS (Rio Grande Southern) 20, making for some unique photos.
During this time, RGS 20 was visiting the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad from her home in Golden, Colorado at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

While the temperatures began to warm up and the sun began to shine, East Broad Top Railroad no. 19 hauls a freight special along the newly reopened southern portion of the railroad. Prior to last year, this portion of the line had not seen rail traffic since the 1950s.

This year's "'Toona" trip started out nicely, with a short stop to the 12th Street crossover in Altoona yielding some results. One of the first trains (a symbol I have since forgotten) had NS 4851, the TAG Heritage Unit in the lead.

Happy Mothers day, and happy (late) national train day!
Myself along with a number of photographers attended the final photo event yesterday featuring Conemaugh & Black Lick 111, prior to a planned repaint by the WMSR. This locomotive served Bethlehem Steelโ€™s Johnstown Works, and was saved for preservation and operation by the Kovalchick family, McHugh Locomotive & Equipment, and the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in 2025.
