______________________________
Outside of surrendering my life to the Lord, marrying Emily, and having a child, nothing else has given me more joy than seeing my wife transition to motherhood.
_
This home has been filled with so much unbelievable goodness these last few weeks and I’ve never been SO thankful for mothers.
_
That goodness stems from baby sounds, laughs, great food, better company, slow days, crazy days, sleepy days, tireless nights, friends, family, and of course, mothers. From my mom, to Michelle, to Emily’s mom, to all our mother friends, and the mothers in our church body…just, wow.
_
, I couldn’t do this without you. No, like, truly, it would be a disaster. I love you and am so proud to witness who the Lord has made you. What a gift it’s been (and by grace, always be) to ride alongside and see all the ways you crush motherhood.
_
May we learn a lot, grow immeasurably, bond in ways we never dreamed of, and remain humble for the gifts we’ve been undeservedly provided.

On April 20th the Lord blessed Emily and I with a beautiful boy, Theodore Elliot Powers. He was born as fast as lightning, weighing 8.0 lbs, 19.5 in, and healthy as can be!
_
Unbelievable excitement (and relief) filled the room the moment our child was born and we found out if we’ve had a boy or a girl. It’s hard to put into words the birth of a child.
_
Praise God that both he and Emily have been healthy through this all. These last few weeks have been so sweet. I’m beyond thankful for all the love we’ve been showered with, meals provided, family, and friends visiting.
_
It’s been an absolute joy to have a newborn in this house. May we cherish this time, the bonds we grow as a family, and never forget how we’ve been loved.

I have few words.
I’m mourning with those mourning today,
I’m reminded of sacrifice,
those vile and evil,
the great nation we inhabit,
the blood spilled to save others,
unity and love,
a sense of humanity,
asking God for understanding,
and humbly remembering what ought to never be forgotten. I’ll never forget.

Escape me?
Never—
Beloved!
While I am I, and you are you,
So long as the world contains us both,
Me the loving and you the loth,
While the one eludes, must the other pursue.
My life is a fault at last, I fear:
It seems too much like a fate, indeed!
Though I do my best I shall scarce succeed.
But what if I fail of my purpose here?
It is but to keep the nerves at strain,
To dry one's eyes and laugh at a fall,
And, baffled, get up and begin again,—
So the chase takes up one's life, that's all.
While, look but once from your farthest bound
At me so deep in the dust and dark,
No sooner the old hope goes to ground
Than a new one, straight to the self-same mark,
I shape me—
Ever
Removed!

‘A little bird I am,
Shut from the fields of air,
And in my cage I sit and sing
To Him who placed me there:
Well pleased a prisoner to be,
Because, my God, it pleases Thee!

'Naught have I else to do;
I sing the whole day long;
And He whom most I love to please
Doth listen to my song,
He caught and bound my wandering wing,
But still He bends to hear me sing.’

I cannot see what flowers are at my feet,
Nor what soft incense hangs upon the boughs,
But, in embalmed darkness, guess each sweet
Wherewith the seasonable month endows
The grass, the thicket, and the fruit-tree wild;
White hawthorn, and the pastoral eglantine;
Fast fading violets cover'd up in leaves;
And mid-May's eldest child,
The coming musk-rose, full of dewy wine,
The murmurous haunt of flies on summer eves.

______________________________
Well. It has been a while. What do you want me to say? If you know me, you’ll know that I’ll say something, even if really just speaking to myself. I’m 1000s of photos behind, but have some that I am proud of. Overall, it’s been hard to have a desire to post, update a website, try and sell my work, etc. when it has felt like I am overwhelmed by great photographers with great visions, darkroom magicians, and no access to a darkroom since AZ Photo went kaput.

It’s also been a feeling of defeat. Which, I guess passion and desire feed into that feeling. My passion is there, but my desire doesn’t follow suit many days. Diving into my photography though, I still get lost and have an excitement that few things compare to. My love if Christ and love of my wife exceed it. But few other things get me giddy.

Anyway...this was taken in Milford Sound on our honeymoon. It doesn’t do it justice, but the mood portrays the weather that day. Rainy, dark, and somber. But, Emily and I enjoyed every second of it. Never had I felt so tiny looking upward at the peaks. It was unforgettable being at what felt like the end...where land meets sea.

Yes, I know I know. I owe you all a ton of photos. From Oregon two years ago, to California last year, to Colorado this year, the negatives are PILING up.
_
It’s been a super crazy 12 months for me. I’ve been averaging 70+ hours a week. Which means when I have free time it’s been going to spending time with Emily, wedding planning, at church or community, or just ‘vegging’ out.
_
But, I’m itching to a) develop some more film, b) scan the endless amount of negatives I have, c) edit the even more endless pictures, and d) sell some prints for extra honeymoon money!
_
Thanks for all the followers over the years and encouragement. Don’t worry, all is well. Just need to put my camera shoes back on.

______________________________
Ah, wondrous, joyful days indeed. Shortly after our exciting moment last Saturday, Emily road around with me in the mountains with the windows down. She patiently read a book while I stopped the car to run around taking photos. And even ran to and fro getting me more film holders, or a forgotten loupe, or a jacket when it was cold.
_
This past week has been great, the excitement of a long to-do list we tackle as we begin preparing for marriage and the big day. I'm reminded on this Saturday morning of last weekend; the anxiety, the hand holding, the pictures taken together, the bug spray, the cool weather, the music we were humming to, the wildlife, the sunset, and so much more.
_
And I'm also reminded to enjoy this time, not look past it at only what the future holds, but what we have now. Reminded of family and friends that are struggling, of loving other's, of not looking inward, but letting God use this to look outward, to embrace what He has given. Much of which is for ALL the ways it will shine His light to ever corner. May we be faithful in lifting Him up, in a time that's so easy to be consumed about us.
_
I'll leave with a portion of this poem, much of life can be a dance to ever-changing tunes...
"I would have each couple turn,
join and unjoin, be lost
in the greater turning
of other couples, woven
in the circle of a dance,
the song of long time flowing..."
-Wendell Berry

|| A Love Like Yours ||
______________________________
To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable. -C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
