Common trailing ant (Monomorium minimum, center) and ants from the genus Nylanderia (above and below) tending aphids in the backyard. These ants will protect the aphids in exchange for access to their honeydew, a sweet, sugar-rich liquid that aphids excrete as they feed.

Little brown skink, one of four reptiles I have seen in the garden, all of which are vastly more abundant than before I began this project. These guys, along with green anoles, Texas spiny lizards, and the tiny and adorable rough earth snake all feed on all the native insects and other invertebrates that depend on native plants and habitats. They keep invertebrate numbers in check and are always a treat to see in the garden. Once again lovely photos from my friend Nathan while I’m away at college.

Prairie acacia (Acaciella angustissima) emerging from dormancy amongst rescue brome that I’m hoping perennials will eventually outcompete. That may be a fever dream, but only time will tell. Photo from bestie Jackson while I’m at school.
