It’s the imperfect photos that I love even more with time.

The slightly blurry, the funny faces or the in between moments that take me straight back to what it felt like to be there.

Those are the ones that I cherish the most. The ones that truly get more valuable with time. The ones that you can’t replicate.

Photo sessions with kids rarely go as planned.

I completely understand the urge to control everything to get the exact outcome you had envisioned. However, when it comes to photos (and let’s be honest, maybe a lot of other things in life) it’s best to let go.

The best photos always come from letting the moments unfold as they will. Kids are the best at setting the stage for magic to unfold because they rarely want to perform for you. They have their own agenda.

I come to each session ready to look for the moments rather than orchestrate them. And what results from that is always better than I could have thought up if I tried.

I know it’s hard. Trust me, as someone who loves control, I really do. But I dare you to try it and see what happens.

Inviting someone into your home can feel intimidating.

I get it.

I preach over and over again that your home doesn’t need to be a certain way for it to be the perfect place to take family photos, yet I still feel the urge to redecorate and declutter before inviting someone into my home.

But the thing is, your mess, your clutter, your rooms that are waiting to be rearranged, they add to the story of your life right now. It won’t always be this way. It’s a mark of this time in your life.

I love looking through old pictures that are taken in my childhood home, my grandparents home or where my parents grew up. It add to the story. It gives you a fuller picture. It’s not about whether the decor was great or not, because we’re always going to change our opinion about that, it’s about that place in time.

Your home tells your story. It’s part of you. It’s worth remembering.

If you’ve, at one time or another, thought “maternity photos are not for me”, then you’re exactly the type of person that I want in front of my lens.

Maternity photos don’t have to be stuffy, cheesy or serious. They can be whatever you want them to be.

Cozy vibes at home with a cup of coffee in hand. Yes, please.

These two laughed their way through the entire session and it was the absolute best time. ☕️

The golden age of babies. ✨

It’s an often over looked time period, but babies age 6-9 months are at a premo stage for documenting.

Why?

The squishiness, the smiles and giggles, maybe they can sit up but aren’t fully mobile yet, and they are eager to explore the world. Oh, and did I mention the squishabillity?

I’m just saying I wouldn’t be mad if I started seeing more babies in the range of 6-9 months in front of my lens. Just think about it.

Maternity photos are some of the most underrated photos, in my opinion.

I get it, you think, I don’t want to get all dressed up when I don’t even feel like myself. Or, why don’t I just wait till baby gets here for photos? Or maybe you think it even feels a little vain.

I’ve been there. And had all those thoughts. But I’m here to say if you’re thinking any of those things, you’re exactly the person that I want to work with.

You don’t like fussy. You may not like all the attention on you. And traditional maternity photos just don’t feel right.

I can really feel a shift happening. Honestly over perfection. Messy over posed. Realness over polished.

Of course we all want to look good. We want things to feel good. But most of all we want them to feel real. We want to feel the true joy that comes from life unfolding as it does.

There will always be a place for polished and posed, but I for one am thrilled to highlight more of the beautiful unpolished moments of life and I’m excited to see others embracing that idea too.
