1. I love having my own business, the freedom, the flexibility, but I really loathe wondering where my next client is going to come from
2. Sometimes, I just wish someone would tell me what to do next, even though that was the thing I hated most when I worked in corporate
3. I thought that imposter syndrome would eventually fade away with time. It hasn’t and I often have to remind myself that I feel this way because I actually care
4. I’ve never hit six figures and there are times when I question if I’m actually successful
5. In college, I was too scared to take a photography class because of the critiques. I still have a hard time receiving feedback, even when it’s good feedback
6. I may seem confident in public or online, but I’m constantly overthinking, overanalyzing, and second guessing myself, even though I’m an “expert”
7. I’m pretty sure my photography days are numbered, but it feels nearly impossible to give up this thing I’ve spent the last 15 years building…even though I know that pivoting doesn’t mean I failed
Even after all this time in business, I still feel like I’m white-knuckling it sometimes. I feel like I should have more figured out, learned the “secret”, or be further along.
But the thing that nobody says out loud is that my version of success isn’t six figures, fancy cars, or lavish vacations.
My definition of success is flexibility to pick my kids up from school, take long lunches with business besties, pay for a family vacation, or flex my creativity while getting paid well.
What is your definition of success? If you’re figuring that out too, follow along
