Curaçao taught me something I already believed but needed to feel again.

Travel is an education that no classroom can replicate. You don’t read about a place and understand it. You have to stand in the Otrobanda at night when the string lights come on and the colonial buildings turn gold. You have to watch someone dance through a carnival parade with that kind of joy, the kind that isn’t performed for anyone, it’s just real. You have to eat a mango cup with a Curaçao flag in it and let a stranger smile at you like you belong there.

This island is 38 miles of limestone, cactus, coral, and culture. It has a 350-year-old historic district, a carnival tradition that fills the streets with color and sound, botanical retreats built into the hillside, and a spa carved into the cliffside overlooking the Caribbean.

I was there as a photographer. I left as a student.

SAME HOUSE. TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORIES.

Interior design by . Construction by . Photography by me.

Bergman Vass shot this project too — and their images are beautiful. Tight, editorial, furniture-forward. Every frame answers the question: what did we design?

My brief was different. I was brought in to document the completed home — the architecture, the spatial flow, the way rooms connect, the scale of what was built. My frames answer a different question: what did they build?

Same arched hallway. Same spiral stair. Same primary bath with the freestanding tub and the garden beyond. Completely different visual language.

This is something most builders and designers don't think about until after the shoot: photography isn't one thing. A design portfolio shoot and a builder documentation shoot serve different audiences, tell different stories, and require different approaches.

If you're a builder or designer in South Florida and you want both stories told properly — that's exactly what I do.

The Chicago Luxury Summit happened last week at at . I wasn't on site — my team was.

PowerHouse SMART is one of those organizations that gets something right that most industry groups don't: it's built around genuine community, not just networking. The room last week was full of luxury design and build professionals — architects, interior designers, custom builders, specialty contractors — who actually show up for each other.

Wendy Cohen and the PowerHouse team have created something worth investing in. DJP has been a proud sponsor and media partner for years, and that's not changing.

The event was held at — one of the most beautifully considered showroom spaces in Chicago — and co-sponsored by .

If you're a design or build professional in the Chicago market and you're not in this room yet, it's worth a look.

This is what Admiral's Cove looks like when everything goes right.

Cherry Luxury Homes builds in one of the most competitive custom home markets in the country. Jupiter. Palm Beach County. Waterfront. The buyers here have seen everything — and they notice when something is off.

Nothing is off here.

The herringbone floors run through every living space without interruption. The onyx bar is backlit and book-matched. The outdoor living room has a full kitchen, outdoor TV, outdoor pool table, and glass walls that dissolve the line between inside and out.

This is what it looks like when a builder operates at the top of their market — and has the photography to prove it.

If you're a designer or architect placing work in the Jupiter or Palm Beach corridor, Cherry Luxury Homes is worth knowing.

THE LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY HAS MORE FUN THAN ANYONE GIVES IT CREDIT FOR.

I was the official photographer for iLandscape 2026 — the Illinois + Wisconsin Landscape Show — back in February.

Yes, I'm just posting this now. No, it's not too late.

Here's why:

This wasn't news coverage. This was documentation of a community — and communities don't have an expiration date.

What you're seeing: a keynote that had the room on its feet, a live podcast recorded on the show floor, exhibitors who built full racing-themed experiences just to make people smile, a Harley Davidson prize winner, a human horse race, and the exact moment someone found out they won.

This industry works hard. It also knows how to show up for each other.
I've been the official media partner for Landscape Illinois events for two years running. If you're a landscape firm, supplier, or association that wants your event, your team, and your brand documented at this level — that's exactly what I do.

COMMENT ILANDSCAPE to connect about event media coverage.

This is what a landscape company that actually cares looks like in April.

Spring cleanup isn’t glamorous. But the way a landscape firm approaches it tells you everything about how they manage a property year-round.

Here’s Paul Zuzinec from walking a Lake Forest property through its second season of care. What you’re watching isn’t a sales pitch — it’s a site assessment. Pre-emergent timing. Fertilization. Spade edge refresh. Plant health evaluation after winter dormancy. Storm damage check on surrounding canopy.

Every item on that list is a decision that protects the client’s investment and keeps the design looking the way it was intended.

This is the difference between a landscape contractor and a landscape partner.

If you’re a builder, architect, or designer who refers landscape maintenance to your clients — this is the level of professional oversight your referral should reflect.

EVERY MATERIAL DECISION TELLS YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE BUILDER.

doesn't cut corners where you can't see them — and they definitely don't cut corners where you can.

This West Palm Beach residence sits in the historic district. The design brief called for warmth, character, and craftsmanship that felt earned rather than installed. What followed was a series of material decisions that speak for themselves: Calacatta marble floors with deep burgundy veining, unlacquered brass throughout every fixture, custom millwork with hand-carved detail, zellige tile, and a color palette that most builders wouldn't have the confidence to execute.

This is what a small, bespoke custom builder does when they're given the freedom to build without compromise.

If you're a designer or architect working in the Palm Beach area and you're looking for a builder who can actually execute at this level — Ancora is worth the conversation.

As above, so below.

The moon governs the tides. The tides shape coastlines, ecosystems, migration patterns, the chemistry of the sea.
And since your body is two-thirds water — it governs something in you too.

We’ve just forgotten how to listen.

Every photograph I take of the natural world is an attempt to remember.
