Something beautiful about the end of summer gardens…
Fall, October, still filled with life but losing
The battle for one more flower, one more pepper
Valiantly holding onto its leaves under the wind
Grown colder with the shorter days. Pumpkins
Are everywhere now. Their color welcome under
Trees of every color, the hydrangeas their vibrant blues
And pinks, now papyrus like in mauve and
Brownish green. Still beautiful. Raspberries
Still providing sweetness this late in the year
Welcome for breakfast. A watery sun weakens
Under the longer nights but still welcome
Sitting outside in the end of summer gardens.

The last gasp of color
Autumn is here…
A waterfall of blue
Morning glories
Blushing across the house
And over the roof
Celosia red and orange
Trees before the sigh and fall
In orange, red, yellow, brown
Outlasting the 44 degree
Autumn nights
Easing us into the cold
When color is lost
The final scents of herbs
Not harvested, now frosted
Then the snows
The white so serene
It’s almost warm –
Under the sun’s embrace.
