Did you know the sun doesn’t set in the exact same spot throughout the year? 🌅

It’s one of those little things you probably don’t notice until you spend A LOT of time photographing on the beach!

The sun’s position in the sky and along the horizon changes throughout the year. That means the direction of the setting sun, the angle of the light, and even how long that beautiful golden glow lasts can all change depending on the time of year.

As a beach photographer, I’m constantly paying attention to where the sun will be, how the light is falling on the beach, and what kind of light we’ll have during each part of your session.

So when I recommend a specific time for your beach session, there’s actually a LOT more thought behind it than just, “That sounds like a good time.” 😂

I’m watching the sun so we can make the most of that beautiful Dauphin Island light.

And if you’ve ever wondered why your photographer keeps talking about golden hour, sunset time, or where the sun is going to be… now you know!

Want to know my favorite months to photograph beach sessions? 👀🌊

September and October. Hands down.

There are only a few days left of summer, with the official last day being September 22nd. But that doesn’t mean beach sessions come to an end!

Actually, this is when things start getting really good. The crowds begin to thin out, the temperatures are a little more comfortable, and we still get those gorgeous sunsets and beautiful beach evenings that make for the dreamiest photos.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking a beach session on Dauphin Island, don’t put it away with your summer plans just yet! There’s still plenty of beach season left, and I’d love to capture some beautiful memories for you. 📸🌅

The beach doesn’t know it’s supposed to be “off-season.” 😉

Not every photo needs to be perfectly posed.

Some of my favorite images are the ones where everyone is laughing, looking at each other, or simply caught in a genuine moment. That’s why I love giving my families random little prompts during their sessions. Sometimes they make absolutely no sense, sometimes they’re a little silly, but they almost always get everyone laughing. 😂

I may ask you to whisper something ridiculous to your spouse, tell your kids a silly joke, or do something completely unexpected. The goal isn’t always the prompt itself—it’s creating those little moments where you forget the camera is even there.

Those genuine smiles and real interactions? That’s the magic I’m looking for. 🌊🤍

One of the most frequent questions I get is, “What should I wear for a beach session?”

My answer will almost always be: a dress that moves with you and makes you feel confident. 🤍

There’s just something about a flowy dress on the beach. When the breeze catches it, it adds movement and dimension to your photos and makes those wide beach shots feel even more beautiful. And honestly, when you feel good in what you’re wearing, it shows!

A few things I love about flowy dresses for beach sessions:

✨ They photograph beautifully in the coastal breeze.
✨ They add movement to your photos, especially when walking or twirling.
✨ They create a soft, romantic look without feeling overly “posed.”

And don't feel like you have to stick with the traditional blue-and-white beach colors! Soft neutrals, creams, muted greens, blush, tan, and even subtle patterns can look gorgeous against the sand and water.

So when you're standing in your closet wondering what in the world to wear… reach for the dress that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and like yourself. Then let the beach do the rest. 🌊

I’m finally starting to feel like I can catch my breath after a LONG, busy summer season! 🙌🏼🌊

I’m down to just 8 sessions left to edit before I’m officially caught up! 🎉 And let me tell you… that feels SO much better than the 18–22 sessions I’ve had sitting on my editing list for the past couple of months. 😂

I don’t know about y’all, but seeing that many sessions sitting “on deck” consistently gives me a little anxiety! 😅 I’m constantly thinking about the families waiting on their photos and wanting to get every gallery finished as quickly as I can.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m absolutely not complaining! I’m incredibly grateful for every family who trusted me to capture their vacation memories this summer. But there’s something really satisfying about watching that editing queue finally shrink!

Only 8 more to go… and I can almost see the light at the end of the editing tunnel! 😂💻✨

Summer may be coming to an end, but the beach definitely isn’t closing down! 🌊☀️ In fact, there are some pretty great reasons to plan a beach session after the summer crowds start to disappear.

Three reasons to consider a late-summer/early-fall beach session:

1. Less crowded beaches = more room for those beautiful, wide-open shots without a hundred beachgoers in the background. 🙌

2. Cooler temps = you can actually enjoy your session without feeling like you’re melting before we even finish. 😂

3. The beach doesn’t know it’s “off-season.” 😉 You still get the sand, waves, gorgeous sunsets, and all the beachy goodness—just with a little more breathing room.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking a beach session, don’t wait until next summer! Some of my favorite sessions happen when the island starts to quiet down. 🤍🌅

This little guy was an absolute ham for my camera… right up until he decided he was DONE. 😂 And you know what? That’s completely okay!

Little ones have a very short window before they’re over an activity, so I try to work quickly while I have their attention. And I always remind my mamas that if their little one has a meltdown during the session, it is completely normal! It happens.

You don’t have to stress about getting the “perfect” photo the entire time. Sometimes the sweetest images happen in between the smiles, when everyone else is laughing, snuggling, playing, or simply loving on each other.

So let your babies be babies. I’ll work with them, not against them. And I promise, we can still create some beautiful memories even if there are a few tears along the way. 🥹🌊

One day, they’ll be too big to toss in the air. 🥹

Right now, they’re little enough to run into your arms, squeal with laughter, and beg you to do it one more time. These are the moments that go by way too quickly—and the ones you’ll want to remember long after the vacation is over.

If you're planning a beach getaway to Dauphin Island, let's make time for the photos. You don't need perfectly behaved kids or a family that knows how to pose. Just bring your people, and I'll take care of the rest. 🤍🌊

I still have some upcoming availability, so send me a message and let's get your family on the calendar!
