Strength. If there was only one word I could use to tell the story of this mama and her beautiful girl.

In the early days of motherhood, oftentimes uncertainty weighs equally to delight. The tenderness of holding a child who was born a fighter. I am in awe of the strength of the bond that tethered this new family. It was palpable when I met them.

Sometimes a session is more than beautiful pictures, and this was certainly one of those times that I feel immense gratitude to be let into a family’s story.

There’s so many beautiful photos from this spring family session I just wanted to share a couple more.

I always tell clients that it’s better to coordinate colors vs. match outfits for family photos. I love how these colors and floral patterns play so well together with a backdrop of wildflowers and spring grass.

One thing I wish I could tell every parent thinking about booking their first photography session is this:

Invest in memories that matter. Be in the photos now— even if you feel like it’s not the right time, you want to wait until things calm down, when you feel more put together.

I promise you that catching life as it is now will feel so much more valuable to you than waiting for the right moment.

You don’t have to know how to do anything in front of the camera except show up as yourself. I will guide you to make you feel comfortable, and let your kids reveal their real personalities for the camera. So many times, the words I hear at the end of a session are:

That was actually so fun!

We forgot we were making pictures and we were just being ourselves.

You managed to catch the in-between times that we didn’t even realize were happening.

Why did I wait?

I’m not going to lie, golden hour in spring with a glowing, brilliant family is nothing short of spectacular. I am so grateful this beautiful family trusted me to show who they are and reveal the magic in their connections to each other.

Spring sessions, but not the stiff, “everyone look here and smile” kind.

The kind where your dress brushes the grass and your kids press in close because as far as they’re concerned, you’re the only thing that matters in their world.
  Where someone inevitably finds mud, but you decide it’s worth it because a stain doesn’t matter does it?

This is the slowing down in a world of speeding up.
 The time where we follow their lead, not a list we need to check off.

Where they whisper secrets in your ear and burst into giggles a second later.
 The in-between moments become your favorite images.

Let them run. Let them be loud. Let them be moody. Let them be exactly who they are right now.

Running freely with sunlight on your face.
Chasing your brothers until you topple together.
Soft grass landings, exhilarating throws in the air. So many laughs and fierce hugs.
