I came across this Turkey Vulture resting on a tree with its wings fully extended. It gave me a great view of the feather detail, especially the lighter flight feathers against its dark body. I waited for a few moments before it finally settled into this position, giving me the shot I was looking for.

Great Egrets are large wading birds that can be found in wetlands, marshes, ponds, lakes, rivers, and coastal areas throughout much of North America. They are easy to identify by their all-white feathers, long black legs, long neck, and yellow bill. Great Egrets typically feed on fish, frogs, insects, and other small animals by standing still in shallow water and striking quickly when prey comes within reach. They are a popular subject for photographers because of their size, behavior, and distinctive appearance.

A Painted Turtle stretches out across a fallen log while basking in the morning light. The yellow facial stripes, detailed shell pattern, and brightly marked legs stand out against the muted water in the background. This freshwater species is well adapted to spending time both in the water and on exposed logs where it can warm itself in the sun.

The female Common Yellowthroat may not have the bold black mask of the male, but she has a beauty all her own. Her warm olive-brown plumage and subtle yellow tones help her blend perfectly into the grasses and dense vegetation she calls home. Often staying low and moving quietly through the brush, she can be easy to overlook—but catching a glimpse of this petite warbler is always a special moment in the field.

Caught this beautiful Helmeted Guinea Fowl out enjoying the evening, and what a sight it was! From its stunning polka-dot feathers to that unmistakable helmeted head, this bird is truly one of nature’s most unique creations. Sometimes the best wildlife moments happen when you least expect them—just a quiet walk through the grass and suddenly, you’re sharing the space with something extraordinary.

There’s something truly powerful about witnessing a young eagle in full flight—wings stretched wide, golden talons tucked in, and completely at home in the open sky. Every feather seems to tell a story of strength, freedom, and the wild spirit of nature. Moments like this are why I love wildlife photography: you can freeze a split second of motion and preserve the majesty of a bird that was never meant to be confined.

A young Ruby-throated Hummingbird hovering in place, showing the early stages of its adult plumage. You can see a few ruby-colored feathers starting to develop on the throat, while the rest of the plumage remains more muted. Capturing a bird like this with the wings fully extended gives a great look at the feather detail and structure.

I came across this Mallard while it was moving through the water, and the first thing that caught my attention was the contrast between its dark green head and the mottled white and brown body. I waited for it to move into the open water with the moss-covered rocks in the foreground, which gave me the composition I was looking for.

An entire gathering of Double-crested Cormorants taking over the treetops, turning these weathered branches into their own high-rise lookout. Some perch quietly, others stretch their wings, but together they create an unforgettable silhouette against the summer sky. Nature has a way of making even a dead tree feel full of life.

A Red Sunflower is nature’s way of showing that beauty can be bold, unexpected, and unforgettable. With its deep crimson petals and golden center, it carries the warmth of a sunflower with a touch of passion and strength. Standing tall and vibrant, it’s a reminder to embrace what makes you different and let your own colors shine.
