As I’m sure a lot of people in metro Detroit that are zoo-goers have heard the news already. Sadly the Detroit Zoo has had to compassionately euthanize 16 year old Kaska the grey wolf who has called the Detroit Zoo his home for more than 10 years.
I remember when they first announced the grey wolves addition to the zoo and how excited I was. Every time I’ve gone to the zoo since I’ve always stopped in the back at the wolves. Kaska always seemed to pose so effortlessly, almost like he enjoyed having his picture taken. He was my favorite at the zoo and he will be deeply missed. The staff and keepers will be in my thoughts during this difficult time. 🧡🐺

The animal version of when you always gotta take multiple pictures because your eyes end up doing something weird 👀🥴
Mourning doves are one of my favorites because they all look and act like they’re sharing a brain cell and I love it😂🕊️

In the first shot of this red-winged blackbird I believe I happened to catch its third eyelid covering its eye! The second shot is the same bird a couple seconds later and you can’t see the “covering” or haziness in the eye.
The third eyelid, also called nictitating membrane, is used to protect the cornea, lubricate the eye and preserve their eyesight so they can still see while not losing vision in hazardous situations. 🐦‍⬛
