As a real estate photographer, I typically capture properties under ideal conditions. Occasionally, the work also involves documenting incidents in the community.

This evening, I photographed the aftermath of the fire at the historic Henry Mueller Mansion at 405 W. William Street in Decatur. The mansion, once home to the eldest son of the Mueller Co. founder, is a notable architectural landmark tied to Decatur’s industrial history. I used to live just a block away and passed it regularly.

The Decatur Fire Department did an excellent job containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the adjacent Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion at 421 W. William Street - the preserved 1874 home of Illinois’ three-time governor and friend of Abraham Lincoln.

Hoping for the best for the owners of the Mueller property.
