Earlier this summer I had the unique opportunity to film the first in-water test of The Flying Dutchman concrete canoe!

This concrete canoe measured 18' long, 3' wide, and 2' deep while weighing approximately 400lbs made from a lightweight concrete mix that was designed and then used to construct the canoe over the course of 2 semesters by the team shown in the video. The canoe was constructed for a regional concrete canoe competition, hosted by Purdue Ft. Wayne's ASCE Chapter to put the students to the ultimate test on their skills.

Unfortunately, the competition was cancelled due to the weather, but with some coordination with family and friends they put the canoe in the water for the first time to see if their hard work paid off. So now, watch the video below to see how the maiden voyage turned out!
