Sometimes one of my favorite decisions in an image is deciding what NOT to show.

I might crop out part of a face.
Cut the frame at the shoulder.
Focus on a hand, a curve, a piece of lace, a tiny detail.

And no—it's not because something outside the frame was “wrong.”

It's because sometimes showing less makes your eye pay attention more.
A photograph doesn't always have to give you the whole story.

Sometimes I like leaving just enough out that your brain finishes it for you.
That's where an image can get really interesting. 📸

Since it's Labor Day, can we give a little appreciation to the women who know how to WORK? 🔥 (isn't that ALLLLL of us??)

The women building businesses.
Running households.
Leading teams.
Working the long shifts.
Raising kids.
Starting over.
Chasing the promotion.
Building something from scratch.
Keeping approximately 47 plates spinning while answering an email that starts with, “Just circling back...” 😏

Women are out here doing some pretty badass things.
So today, I'm giving a huge shout to all of my babes -- you are Strong. Capable. And not here to play small.

Happy Labor Day, ladies!

Forget flowers for a minute.
What's something completely unromantic your person does that you find ridiculously romantic?
Starts your car when it's cold?
Brings you your coffee?
Handles the phone call you don't want to make?
Fills your gas tank?
Brings home your favorite snack without being asked?
Kills the spider? 😂
Sometimes “I love you” sounds suspiciously like:
“Don't worry about it. I already took care of it.”
What's yours?

I don't need an explanation.
This image is giving:
🥂 Champagne
or
🥃 Tequila
Which one?

There's a difference between being looked at and being seen, don't you think?
Being looked at is about what someone notices from the outside.
Being seen is different.
It's the expression you make when you stop thinking about the camera. The way you carry yourself. The softness AND the edge.
The parts of you that don't have anything to do with what size you wear or how much skin you're showing.
That's what I'm always looking for when I'm photographing a woman.
Not just:
“Does she look beautiful?”
But...
“Does this feel like HER?”
Because a beautiful photograph is wonderful, but a photograph that somehow feels like the woman standing in front of me?
👉🖤 Yep.... That's the one I want.

Girls' trips hit different when you're grown. 😂

Nobody's trying to survive on three hours of sleep anymore.

Someone brought snacks.

Someone packed Advil.

At least one person has a charger for every device ever manufactured.

There's probably a conversation happening at 11:47 PM that could NEVER leave that room.

And somehow you come home simultaneously exhausted and completely recharged.

Maybe that's the magic of getting away with your girls.

For a couple of days, nobody needs you to be Mom, wife, boss, chauffeur, scheduler, problem-solver...

**You're just you with the women who know you.**

Drop a ✈️ if a girls' trip needs to happen in your future.

Not every image needs you to hold perfectly still.

Sometimes I want the hair moving.

The sheet falling.

The robe slipping off a shoulder.

A turn.

A step.

A little blur in exactly the right place.

Movement can make a photograph feel like something was happening **before** I pressed the shutter...

and kept happening after.

Less “pose for the camera.”

More like I caught you in the middle of a moment.

Those images just feel alive to me.

When did busy become something we're weirdly proud of?

“How are you?”
Busy.

“How's work?”
Crazy busy.

“How's life?”
Oh, you know...BUSY.

Somewhere along the way, a packed calendar started sounding like proof that we're important, productive or doing life correctly.

But I'm starting to wonder...
When did having room in our lives become something we needed to apologize for?

An afternoon with nothing scheduled.
Not answering immediately.
A weekend without plans.
Sitting down before everything is done.

Maybe “not busy” doesn't mean we're doing less with our lives.
Maybe sometimes it means we've finally stopped measuring our worth by how exhausted we are.

No productivity assignment attached. 😉

Sometimes I know exactly what an image needs before I take it.
Drama..... Deep expression. Strong lines. Intensity.
Other times, I want almost the opposite.
Softness. Ease. A quieter expression. Something that feels like you just happened to catch the moment.
And sometimes we start in one direction...
then I see YOU in the set and change my mind completely.
That's one of the reasons I don't want every session to follow the same formula. I'm not just photographing the set.
I'm photographing the energy you bring into it.

There's a certain kind of grown-woman friendship I really love.
You haven't talked in three weeks.
Maybe three months.
Hell, maybe six.
Then one of you calls and within 90 seconds you're right back in the middle of a conversation like nobody ever left. 😂
No guilt trip.
No friendship scorecard.
Life got busy. You both know it.
But when something big happens?
She's still one of your people.
Those friendships are pretty damn special.
