Monon FP7 #96, Milwaukee Road F7B 68B, and Milwaukee Road F7A 72A sit in an open field just outside of Wabash, Indiana along Norfolk Southern's Huntington District. Not much info can be found on what the plans are for these 3 engines as they've sat here for quite a few years. Will they be restored or left for dead? Only time will tell…

Cumulonimbus clouds build in the distance as a Union Pacific stack train barrels out of the danger zone on the Sidney Subdivision. U.S route 30 parallels this line for almost the entirety of Nebraska, making it easier than ever to get some roadside shots as the trains roll by.

With 2026's severe weather season reaching it's peak this month, who knows what it'll bring to the Central Plains.

Through The Streets

It's a rare and confusing sight to see trains rolling through a downtown neighborhood, especially a main line with no place to go except through town. One unique "street running" location is in Elizabeth, PA, right down 1st Avenue where various CSX trains take the MON Subdivision along the Monongahela River.

Here, an empty CSX coal train crawls southbound through town on a perfect Spring afternoon.

A CSX freight crosses the Youghiogheny River (try pronouncing that!) on a perfect spring morning. Southbound trains split at the former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie McKeesport Bridge, taking either the Keystone Subdivision or the Mon Subdivision to continue on their way. This particular train heads for the Keystone Subdivision and ducks under the Lysle Boulevard Bridge.

A quintet of Alcos rumbles beneath Portland, PA’s toll bridge into New Jersey on a perfect early spring morning. Delaware Lackawanna’s PT97/98 briefly experimented with a new pickup point from NS when their trains became too large for the Slateford Interchange. Norfolk Southern would drop off its train at the Portland Power Plant, after which the DL would pick it up and head north. For a few years, it was common to see five to eight Alcos on this heavy train. Today, this train is basically nonexistent, with most carloads now arriving at the north end of the railroad.

The coldest air mass of the season hovers over upstate New York bringing temperatures into the negatives in many areas, including here at Delanson this morning. Despite the cold, the skies were crystal clear as Norfolk Southern's Lackawanna Heritage unit leads NS 265 on the D&H. Not a bad way to kickoff Super Bowl Sunday.
