Over the last two days my daughter has cared for and watched two birds die.
Our cat doesn’t understand the heartbreak of his instincts to three small kids, and continues doing what he does well. They’re starting to understand the circle of life quickly this spring, seeing him hunt and eat time and time again. He’s becoming a great hunter.
So we’ve decided to not interfere anymore, and when Otto brings a half alive creature home, we can’t try to save them anymore… for all of our sakes.
She did better with the second bird dying, and this one died right in her hands. I hope that little bird could feel the comfort of this ten year old’s tender heart as it passed on to birdy heaven.
We have some precious little homemade bird gravestones in the garden now. 🕊️
PS. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? It was such a gorgeous yellow.
